This is why the idea that Democrats need to focus on and become the "party of the working class" is flawed. These voters vote Republican on racial resentment, not economic policy and Republicans cater to this. In 2024, only 30% of white no college men voted Harris, 42% among N/C women.

Antisemitism and racism usually go hand in hand.
laurenashley087.bsky.social
And let me be EXTRA EXTRA clear:

If you aren’t fighting antisemitism, you are aiding racism. It is ONE fight.
mseyfang.bsky.social
🎯🎯🎯 All of this.
laurenashley087.bsky.social
White people need to talk to other white people. It is entirely up to the whites to move the needle on their end.

Let me be clear: racism and antisemitism are rampant on *both* sides of the aisle.

Your twentysomething niece has fallen for the okie doke just as easily as your Boomer uncle.

Worth remembering that Dean famously said he was from the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party. Dean was proudly a Democrat; Bernie never joined the party, choosing instead to remain an independent who caucused with Senate Dems.
danahoule.bsky.social
To me the success of Dean’s campaign & failure of Bernie’s is what they did within the party after their losses: Dean ran for DNC chair, won, did a good job, & Deaniacs reinvigorated local party organizations

Bernie gave speeches, denigrated the Dem party & few of his people worked within the party
saganomics.bsky.social
As an officer of a local party where about 70 of our 280 committee seats are filled, I cannot reiterate enough that the party is a creation of the people whose hands are on it. In too many places there aren't enough hands, or those hands are complacent or bitter. But they could be yours instead.

The Republican Party is a party of pedophiles and Nazis. Vote them all out.

They are losers without positive qualities; they lack compassion, empathy and decency. They are not simply losers -- they are also very bad people who enjoy harming others.

This chant would not have been out of place on that Young Republican group chat, in case you have your doubts about horseshoe theory. This is utterly vile hate speech.

…terrified by the thought that someone could see their face

The greatest power we have is shame. Most people would be ashamed to take a job with ICE, & we as a nation need to ensure those jobs are understood as sinful & as shameful. /12

This is also an important thread. Very insightful.
danahoule.bsky.social
This is an important thread. There are probably several hundred Federal agents who were sent to Chicagoland last month. They have inflicted cruelty & misery, they’ve gassed, & even shot & killed people. Every person they kidnap is a tragedy

But they actually haven’t got man people considering…/1
johnpfaff.bsky.social
What Trump is doing is very bad. But I want to push back against some of the numbers here.

ICE did not hire 10,000 agents. It WANTS to. That it keeps running ads suggests it is struggling. And when it does, it seems to cannibalize local police, who don't like that.

More significantly:

In my more cynical moments, I ponder whether we may need to do more to appeal to the less bright among us.
mseyfang.bsky.social
I can give you a ton of policy reasons why we should do more for working people. But what I can't say is that it will pay political dividends. The demographic most likely to vote Republican are white no college men. They're not our voters and many of them like the racism. This is the sad truth.
rbreich.bsky.social
The future of the Democratic Party must be rooted in investing in the American people — not Wall St., corporations, and consultants.

Otherwise, Trumpism will continue to use cynicism, racism, and distrust to divide America.
mseyfang.bsky.social
Community is the way out of this mess. This kind of solidarity will defeat authoritarianism every time.
danahoule.bsky.social
That’s a key to the determined resistance to ICE in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago; it’s a racial plurality neighborhood (about a third white, about a third Latino, remaining third Black & Asian), & the non-Latinos have banded together to protect their neighbors from Kavanaugh sweeps.

The fact that protests now feature people who don’t normally have to worry about what might happen to them in an adverse encounter with security forces is a HUGE DEAL.

It means that the “real” victims don’t have to suffer alone. It means that some people care about something more than themselves
mseyfang.bsky.social
Fixed. Must have been a system glitch.

There's a whole history of why Truman desecrated the Armed Forces in 1948. Part of it was politics, spelled out in a memo from Clark Clifford and part of it was Truman's revulsion over mistreatment of returning Black GIs. It's undervalued as a catalyst to what came later.

Rural voters are getting exactly what they voted for. They are a core part of the Republican base and rural counties consistently voted 70-80% for Trump.

Baldwin: Our farmers are facing incredible headwinds. A lot of the fertilizer inputs come from Canada. Those have shot up because of tariffs. About a quarter of all farmers use the ACA for their health care coverage. This president is just contributing to the headwinds that our farmers are facing.

She was very specific in what she said he'd do and she was correct in every respect.

She called it. Kamala Harris laid out Trump’s vengeance agenda before it even happened.

One line that stuck with me most from 107 Days was when she wrote that during the debate, Trump was “unburdened by the truth.”

He’s also unburdened by threat of accountability, thanks to the Supreme Court.

Trump and Vance are violating their oaths daily. Sounds pretty criminal to me.

This is not an argument they really want to be making.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Trump said Pritzker should be in jail. Do you think he has committed a crime?

VANCE: I think Pritzker has certainly failed to keep the people of Illinois safe

S: It's a yes or no question

V: I certainly think he has violated his fundamental oath. That seems pretty criminal to me
