I’ve also spent 30 years with a generation of writers, and there’s a lot of them who suffer from the disease that their idea of creativity is, we’re just gonna rewrite Star Wars all the time and hope we get called a genius for it.

And at a certain point, Generation X really has had a rough time kind of coming of age from those—we are a generation that has these humongous pop-cultural touchstones. ... We were present at the birth of modern-day scripture. But that doesn’t mean that has to be your identity, you know? And I think that’s one of the biggest issues in terms of being a fan and being a creator right now is getting over it.
