2025 watch #180 - Crimes of the Future (2022). Crimes of Cronenberg amirite? Crash plus Existenz in a future where the body is growing neo organs & performance artists seem to be the only people who know what to do with them. Plus sex & plastic surgery & autopsies on kids. Built to shock. Bit daft.
Bugonia… Bug on ya! Anybody? I should get my coat?
A subtle dark comedy about sexual assault, Coppola shlopola should have been a pass, Nobody needed a Nobody 2, but Stone vs Plemons is an acting masterclass.

2025 watch #179 - Bugonia (2025). Misery meets 10 Cloverfield Lane! Poor Things was the first time Lanthimos directed someone else’s screenplay. Bugonia is the second, but it’s more obvious here. Still, an underwhelming Lanthimos is still a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ treasure and Stone and Plemons are perfect. #filmsky
NW The Chair Company. “I just think HR should know you saw up my skirt. On my birthday.” Only Tim Robinson can write for Tim Robinson, but he writes him so well. It’s I Think You Should Leave - The Movie, except it’s a TV show. About a man who creates stress-inducing mountains out of molehills.

Alt: Tim Robinson’s Rob is socially and psychologically all over the shop in The Chair Company.

2025 watch #178 - Nobody 2. Script machinations and telegraphing aside, it’s still Bob Odenkirk stomping bullies Wick-style, so this sequel to it’s superior original is not without some fun choreography. Just not much else, sadly. Low budget cash grab. Not all the way but most of the way. #filmsky
What if? journalism isn’t very good journalism in my eyes. Each circumstance on its own merits. This is a nonsense story, let’s get back to covering the shitty world we live in.
“ - it’s physically capable of -“ feels like a Chekhov gun throwaway line.
And the most taut. Like it could snap at any time ☹️
2025 watch #177 - Still of the Night (1982). Roy Scheider and Meryl Streep star in an intriguing Hitchcockian noir from the writer/director of Kramer vs. Kramer. Not a flashy film, but a wonderful supporting cast with the likes of Jessica Tandy, Josef Sommer and Joe Grifasi. Keeps you guessing.
Inevitably there’s going to be another season of Only Murders in the Building, but I’d be happy to wait a couple years to give more time to develop the story. This season felt like someone forgot to turn the oven on.

I think I understand. All it will take to save America from itself is some magic metal and Jon Voight coming around (and using his boner for good)? There will be essays written about this movie in years to come and none will make any sense but the lecturers will get a laugh out of them at least.
Comcast doesn’t own Paramount. You might be thinking of Viacom.
Jesus promised to return only when the world is irredeemably broken? What a shitty promise. “You’re gonna fuck this up. Don’t worry, I’ll come back when you do.”
Currently watching it thru Mubi.
But at least I found out there’s a big difference between pigs in a blanket UK compared with USA!
2025 watch no.176 - Megalopolis (2024). Visually arresting, but Francis should be in jail for the childish script. It’s nearly as off putting as Aubrey Plaza and Shia LaBeouf’s characters. I’m only half way through, but I’ll put my human capacity for suffering through the second half. #filmsky
Am I wrong in thinking if Green and Lib Dems could align, they’d be a force to be reckoned with? If it’s true the old form of governance isn’t working for whatever reason, I’d rather not let Farage and his nationalism slip in when these two parties seem to have so much common ground.
2025 watch no.175 - Sorry, Baby (2025). Exceptional telling of a hard subject that many if not most women are forced to be part of. Exceptional that this is Eva Victor’s directorial debut. Subtle kaleidoscope of tones & the acting & the dialogue are exactly right for the story to be heard. #filmsky
Except didn’t they separate families during the first admin… and got voted back in 4 years later? 😕
I’m happy to take original spins on great IP, especially from Flanagan.
Carrie, It: Welcome to Derry, someone’s remaking The Stand, not to mention all the
movies. We’re living in @stephenking.bsky.social terrifying timeline. 🖤
They’re not even phoning it in this season, they’re texting. With emojis.
