Angelica Huston and Liza Minnelli looking incredibly cool
Slightly hooked on this, although the gentle Sunday evening vibes doesn't really suit binging. Penelope Keith has that key sitcom skill of being able to remain likeable while acting in the pompous/plotting/daft way required to make an episode. Interesting how they never go for a final send off gag.
To the Manor Born - Series 1: 5. The Summer Hunt Ball
Sitcom. DeVere hosts the traditional hunt ball but asks Marjory to organise it instead of Audrey, who in turn arranges an exquisite revenge.

Maybe - although the first three are pleasingly different I think. Its only after "Ladies & Gentlemen..." do they become more of a band that riffs on their main success.

Yeah. It’s definitely interesting stuff. But it’s interesting *villainy* imo.
Listened to this so much when it came out. I admire some of the later albums but this is the only one i love.
Spiritualized “Lazer Guided Melodies”
This is a tangent but there’s a Marvel comic from the late seventies where the writer intended the villain to be a racist South African assassin and the artist clearly just saw African and drew a black assassin. The dialogue/image mismatch is weird.
But i think the heart of Magneto as a villain is that the legacy of the camps is to justify pretty much any brutality to ensure - in his view - it doesn’t happen again.
It’s a shame “Planet of the Spiders” established the rules of regeneration. And they didn’t have to come up with new in-story reasons for the Doctors change every 3+ years.
Tell me your most unhinged Doctor Who opinion. I mean, if you’re a fan, they’re likely all unhinged anyway.
I think the issue is bigger between unequal regions under a centralised system. Because regions lack an autonomy to deal with at least a big part of the issue.
Again federal systems don’t mean every region is completely financial autonomous. But it strikes a better balance than a centralised system imo.
I mean most federal states have addressed this, so I would imagine you could decentralise the UK along similar lines without it meaning every unit has to be totally financially autonomous.
RTD’s Tales of the TARDIS were the first warning sign that things might go wrong.
I mean given Magneto’s philosophy he’d be backing Israel in Gaza. Which is why he’s a villain imo.Or at least why celebrating his philosophy is problematic.
It still feels weird that the tune “New York, New York” was written for the seventies film of the same name. And not an already famous tune they used for the title.
I think it’s deliberately in the story telling that the presence of Ian and Barbara mellows the Doctor and makes him a better person. Which means that they both turn him into the timelord he becomes and are indirectly responsible for saving the universe many many times.

This from the International Renewable Energy Agency is pretty mindblowing compared to a decade ago

Yeah. His credo is “this injustice justifies mass murder so it doesn’t happen again.”

Thing is it’s been decades since i did A-level English but my memory isn’t that it demands a much greater technical proficiency or ability to communicate than GCSE’s did.

It was skills in literary interpretation and essay writing. None of which is essential.
