Ella has sensory processing issues, and Veras is extremely fixated on cleanliness, so I don't think they would get very far 😂. Anything messier than a slice of bread would be too much for them - E doesn't want to be stuck smelling like whatever hits her, and V doesn't want ants

Until she finds foods that work for her? She kind of just has to deal with it. Ella has little trust or bandwidth for new things.
My "villain" for Graft is a horde of mutant monsters, so they deal with being hungry by killing and collecting everything organic in sight.

At home, Ella lives off of microwave chicken nuggets, just as I did as a kid. They don't seem to have those on the other worlds she'll end up visiting, though...

My MC in Graft is autistic, as am I. I grew up as a very picky eater with a pretty limited diet (better now, but still there) and I made Ella the same way. Except Graft is partly a portal fantasy, so now she's on a world without any food she knows...

Veras? Dead within seconds. Reyna? Depends on if she knows she's in danger, lady's got some serious muscle. Dorian? Killer is cut up and on fire almost immediately. Andras? See Reyna, but with more social awareness and plant power.

For Ella from Graft, it depends on what part of the book we're in... she'd do a good job of running away regardless, but ya girl is very anxious about confrontation. Would probably be scared to seek out help too, since she has a rather sensitive secret to keep.

I primarily write SFF, so for me as an author, horror is an element I add to that, rather than writing it on its own. So I like to keep my definition of it broad.

Broadly, I guess it's the realization that things are not as they "should" be.
I should be safe with this person, but I'm not.
The world should work in ways I understand, but it doesn't.
That thing should not exist, but it does (and it wants to eat me)
