You know, even if someone were ignorant of this, you’d think it would be intuitive that dunking on any LGBTQ+ person’s sexuality is a bad idea and going to enable some bigotry. You would think.

Other half had a major op earlier this year and now I'm in hospital for an investigation.

Here’s what I could find, a character hiding her true feelings in “Unintended Designs”, my scifi horror novel.

She hunched to look at the floor, and I realized she was shaking slightly. The anger in her voice had a brittle edge to it, a bulkhead that might crack at any moment. It was only looking at her in that instant, a dark, feathery huddle, when I realized just how much she must hide under her cynical, angry exterior.

#QueerWritersChat I don’t know if I use masks specifically as a metaphor, but I definitely have some characters who have personality and emotional layers that are like masks.
My new WIP includes a character with a literal mask (and full armor) though, and who’s absolutely metaphorically masked also!

Even though queer people face more threats of violence for visible nonconformance! It’s not enough for a queer person to survive, be decent to others, and try to make the best decisions they can for themselves, no, we judge how much they might uphold patriarchy in their personal queer expression.
