AOC: You're damn right that it's a Democratic priority to keep people from getting poisoned, from dangerous chemicals

You're damn right that it's a Democratic priority to bring down the cost of housing

If they want to say that that's a Democratic priority, they're right,

I have been thru hell and back with my autoimmune disease. COVID 3x your chance of getting it. Would not wish this (or Long COVID... or both 😫) on anyone. Warning ppl like screaming from the mountain tops. Which I used to be able to hike to.

Health supremacy reigns - "it won't be ME!" they think.
Tweet from Dr Bagai Jun 30, 2023: Risk of autoimmune diseases in patients with COVID-19: COVID19 exhibited signif⬆️risks of rheumatoid arthritis (aHR:2.98), ankylosing spondylitis (aHR:3.21),SLE (aHR:2.99), dermatopolymyositis (aHR:1.96), systemic sclerosis (aHR:2.58), QT of Bagai tweet from me Nov 16, 2023
Can't believe everyone is repeatedly increasing their odds (and their children's odds) of autoimmune disease 😭

Ankylosing spondylitis. Zero stars. Do not recommend.

You don't realize how much SI joints do until they hurt like hell.

Ppl cannot conceive of how violent this disease is.

How devastating it is to ppl’s lives, on top of not being believed, not being able to easily access healthcare for it, not being able to find doctors easily who will mask…

They don’t understand and what’s worse they refuse to listen.

Solidarity from someone trying to avoid adding Long COVID to an already painful autoimmune disease .. or leaving my kids motherless before they finish high school.

So disappointed & distressed by the discourse. It hurts more when it's people you otherwise admired.

I’m lucky enough, after experiencing rather severe symptoms, to have recovered so much from when I was at my sickest, but my anger hasn’t quite healed as well towards ppl who use social media as a tool to punch down on ppl who mask to protect their health & work to normalize this mitigation tool.

I am churlish, to be frank.
And don’t you forget it if you are running your inconsiderate trap on the internet.

The audacity of ppl who didn’t recover who advocate for their SAFETY & accessible, effective treatment & to be taken seriously is simply outrageous.

I’m so sorry that all of us with long COVID won’t just shutup & die faster.
That must be so inconvenient for everyone who dgaf.
I guess we are just down right churlish!

Seriously cannot believe so few people use alt text. Turn it on by default. It’s not hard to remember.

You can reply to a post missing alt text with @ alt-text dot bsky dot social and it will reply with alt text for the image in thread.

Also, when you search for posts - Bluesky search includes alt text. If you post just image - it will be lost in you feed. Image with alt text can be searched for and found.
This also goes for feeds. Many feeds are keyword-based. If your image includes alt text - it will be picked by relevant feeds.

Another possible use case for alt text: a screenshot could be posted in a language you don't understand. If the image has alt text added it makes it easier to copy and translate the text.

btw, if you use Chrome - it's very easy to copy text from image via "Search with Google lens"

Addendum: I am not a fan of AI, but in some cases I make an exception. One of the good uses of AI is to generate alt text from an image. If you're having difficulties writing alt text - this might help. Also AI can notice image details you might miss. But always verify the text it produces.
Example of ChatGPT generating description of uploaded image.

Final note: many people will not repost your post if the image in it doesn't have the alt-text, even if they really like the post. 7/7

Please try to make the alt text descriptive and helpful. It can be funny, but don't make a joke for the sake of the joke. Also please don't enter texts like "This is alt text" or "Image description" 6/7

People tend to forget to add alt text. To help with this Bluesky has a setting. Go to Settings > Accessibility, and turn on "Require alt text before posting." And you will never forget to add alt text again. 5/7

Adding alt text in a Bluesky post is pretty straightforward, just click/tap on the image and a popup opens with a text field where you can type the alt text. 4/7

If you're on a bad Internet connection, or if website you visit experiences overload or other issues (which happened here before) - images may not load, but alt-text always does, and post with images with alt text added are still usable. 3/7

First and foremost alt-text is an accessibility feature designed to help visually impaired people. But it is so much more. If you encounter an unfamiliar image - a still from movie you haven't see, an obscure fandom, a celebrity you're unfamiliar with - alt text can offer additional information 2/7

A brief thread on alt-text.

Alt text is descriptive text that conveys the meaning of an image. It's designed to make visual content accessible to people with vision disabilities. When a person uses assistive technology such as a screen reader, the screen reader will read the onscreen text aloud 1/7

Not a new user (just an inactive one lol) but this is so useful omg honestly, I didn't know what alt text was before and I had no clue about the setting either,,,
