Wow, wow, wow. This has always been legally possible but the law has virtually never been enforced — and now this is the SECOND case I've heard of in the last month (first involving a person with a green card) of a noncitizen being charged for failure to carry their papers.

yes. this is a probabilistic technology. it will guess wrong. in fact, everything useful which an LLM does is driven by the same factors which lead it to hallucinate.

yes. my job, from the advent of LLMs until last Friday, has been trying to keep this from happening. they would not have paid me to do it if the thing i was trying to prevent was impossible.

i don't know why you expect that studying something whose consciousness is, under the most generous possible interpretation, highly contested might be expected to yield an answer to that question. ask someone who studies humans.
