There are codes for safe roofs, yes. You're the only one mentioning jumping off anything. As for your first question: "free speech zone" = "protest area" = gathering place = high occupancy area = safety codes regulate the space.

Last weekend I saw groups on two overpasses in succession on 101: one encouraging voting 'yes', one encouraging voting 'no'. I've gotten three pieces of mail calling it all forms of terrible... and zero pieces of mail explaining why we're even voting on it. I hope the #voteyes folks get louder now.

I'm zero percentage Asian of any flavor, but I (used to) get asked if I was thanks to the shape of my eyes.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I've never been anywhere that had the identity struggles that Charlottesville does. My son rented a cabin outside of town briefly and had a BLM sign in his window (and then his yard) and it caused A WHOLE THING that ended up with him moving INTO town, and it only got marginally better there.
