Text is outlined: I scanned the horizon. It was just me on the water. There wasn’t anyone out sailing, or anyone swimming. I was completely alone.
But… was I? Beneath me were leagues of ocean. Unlike in the forest, where you can hear the wildlife around you, there were creatures that could pass by in the sea and I would never know. The water concealed their movement, cloaking them from my view.
It was getting harder to breathe. The vastness of the ocean was too open, and my skin felt too tight around my chest. I knew, deep in my bones, that something was beneath me and it was watching.
On the port side, the water rippled. Though it was only a few steps, the length of the deck felt miles long. I was compelled to look below, and my body moved on its own accord. Though I was terrified of what I would see, I peered over.

I'm gonna be fairly quiet this week. I took a three day gig in a department I've never worked in because my buddy needed some help. Night shoots, too.
I'm sure it'll be fine... it's just daunting, and I know I'll be exhausted.

I think about calling Sophie, but instead I just text her.
"What's '#loml?'"
I see the three bubbles, but they quickly go away. Then my phone rings. It's Sophie.
"Okay, we need to get you listening to some Taylor Swift," she says as soon as I pick up. Which just confuses me even more.
"Taylor Swift?"
"'loml.' It's one of her songs. It stands for 'Love of My Life.'"
Wow.
That... that means a lot.
But then, as I try to ignore the flood of new followers coming into my phone (apparently being outed as the love of Chloé LaFleur's life draws a bunch of attention among figure skating fans on social media), I wonder... was Chloé referring to me? Or skating?

"If this is what love feels like, then I never want to be in love again."
"Freja, you do not mean that." That's easy for Sophie to say. I look up and she's holding Wyatt's hand. God, they make it look so easy. In the three years they've been together, I don't remember seeing them fight even once.
"I do." I look up and see the disappointed expressions on my friends' faces. "LOML... it doesn't mean what you said."
"It stands for 'love of my life,'" Wyatt says. But he's not a Swiftie. Sophie is, and I can tell by the way her eyes refuse to make contact with mine that she knows where I'm going with this.
"The song, the one by Taylor Swift? It stands for 'loss of my life.' She's singing about a relationship ending."
"Your relationship is not ending," Sophie says. "When you see Chloé, what are you going to say to her first?"
"If I see her, I think I'll say..."
Sophie interrupts.
"When you see her."

It's a bit of a divergence from the vibes of "From the Sea Fret', which was pure horror. I still hope it comes across as at least unsettling.
I mean this is shaping up to be a bit of a longer story than I was expecting, so I'll have plenty of time to make it creepy.

I actually really like the characters of this story. Not that I didn't for any of my other stories, but they came to me really quickly for this one.
Plus I love bringing the actual horror of vampires and werewolves back, so that made the characters really easy to come up with.

I've got just under 4 chapters done, and I hit 10k words. I'm not sure how many chapters this thing will be, or how many words, so I suppose I'm "on track".
