"The activism being done in the underground and its various levels of online / offline community is not meant to be glamorous. It’s not “content” to be shared by influencers as a slickly edited TikTok, or an edgy tweet, or an Instagram slide deck. It’s the un-monetizeable and deeply unsexy work"

Activism and community building online may be critical, but it's also increasingly subject to surveillance. Trans and queer activists are looking toward new models, with degrees of visibility that balance safety with surveillance, just as sex workers have learned to do.
The return of the trans underground
The internet once helped trans people connect and organize. Now it’s a dangerous liability. What comes next?

Like so many right-wing thinkers, Girard's radicalization is rooted in that his mediocre ideas found little support in academia.

Authoritarians think they're the smartest people ever to live and so they think that rejection of their ideas must be a giant conspiracy. See also Yarvin, Curtis.

"It's really unfair to call us censors just because we're trying to ban books"

county17.com/2021/09/30/l...
Senator Troy McKeown (R-Gillette) spoke midway through the public comments regarding his concern about how challenges are being handled.
"We hide behind the First Amendment when it's convenient. When we have a group of people who want to do something else, it's censorship," McKeown said. "At the end of the day you say it's only the parent's responsibility. You can't ensure responsibility. Parents can sign every library card you want. You can't sign another individual's rights away, no matter how old they are."

Librarian Terri Lesley tried to stop right-wing censors from removing LGBTQ+ books from a Wyoming public library. She was fired.

She sued and won $700,000.

Arkansas’s Act 372 would let the state jail librarians for “harmful” books. The First Amendment won’t let censorship win.

These systems are easy to get around and about as much protection as the rhythm method.

I don't want to lambast a guy for the crimes of his son, but how many times do we have to hear about another church pedophile.

It's not porn's fault you're a sexual abuser. Maybe if people spent time dealing with actual ISSUES rather than blaming everything on a imaginary demon...
Screen shot of Ron DeHaas essay (The Perfect Sin) recovered from the Covenant Eyes website:

As my personal burden for the issue of internet pornography has grown, I have seen in the testimonials of our members how pornography has broken relationships.
It breaks down relationships between husbands and wives, parents and children, on the job, even lost jobs, relationship to church family, relationship to the "inner man," and a person's relationship to God.
Related: The Effects of Porn on Wives and Marriages
When there is a secret life going on, that secret life affects every one of those relationships. A secret life pervades every aspect of life, and diminishes effectiveness in all areas of life-home, job, church, everything. For those who are active in a church of any faith, a secret life destroys ministry, and the cumulative effect of millions of secret lives is an ineffective church. Basically, Internet pornography has been perhaps the greatest push toward an era of ineffective ministry.
Related: Porn-A Gateway Drug
All the more for the pastor, minister, or counselor whose job and ministry are tied together. The damage that Internet pornography has done is truly immeasurable.
So, from Satan's perspective, internet pornography is the perfect sin. It breaks families and jobs and communities, it tears down a person's relationship to God, it diminishes the work of ministry, and it is devastating in every way. And it is freely available to everyone of all ages, it is only two clicks (maybe one if it's bookmarked) away from you reading this, it is addictive, and (without a monitoring program) it is totally secret. I firmly believe that internet pornography is the sin of this decade. What more could
Satan ask for?

It's all so incredibly stupit. Every three months, some bigot goes on Google and counts up all of the random, non-official and sometimes entirely made up holidays and is like "can you believe there are 176 days related to sex freaks and only three related to unborn children???"
Anything goes?
But there are plenty of days devoted to an ever-widening spectrum. Here is just a short list of some of the observances:
• Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week (Feb 21).
• International Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31).
• International Asexuality Day (April 6).
• Nonbinary Parents Day (April 18).
• International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (May 17).
• Pansexual and Panromantic Awareness and Visibility Day (May 24).
• Queer Youth of Faith Day (June 30).
One of the days that strikes me as a bit funny is Gay Uncles Day. There's no Lesbian Aunts Day! Somehow, within 137 days of a 365-day calendar, there's not enough room to be inclusive of lesbian aunts? Oh, and there's International Pronouns Day, you know, because

Bill Text (2025-09-16) State: other; distribution of certain material; prohibit. Creates new act. [Bill Electronically Reproduced 09/11/2025]

Michigan's HB4938 "antiporn" bill has been lambasted for a number of reasons. You can go to jail for even talking about sex online. Any reference to trans people needs to be erased from the internet.

But it also bans the sale of VPNs and requires ISPs to surveil block VPNs.
(3) An internet service provider providing internet service in this state shall implement mandatory filtering technology to prevent residents of this state from accessing prohibited material. An internet service provider providing internet service in this state shall actively monitor and block known circumvention tools.
(4) In addition to the criminal penalties provided under subsections
(1) and (2), a commercial entity of internet service provider that knowingly facilitates access to prohibited material in violation of this section is subject to a civil fine of not more than $500,000.00 for each violation.
(5) The promotion or sale of circumvention tools to access prohibited
material is prohibited.
mikestabile.bsky.social
Buried in Michigan's antiporn bill is a provision to effectively outlaw "circumvention tools," such as VPNs.

Mark my words: legislators will increasingly leverage porn panic to restrict or ban VPNs, and to limit internet privacy far beyond adult sites.
Experts raise privacy concerns over Michigan bill targeting pornography and VPNs
Rep. Josh Schriver, the bill’s sponsor, says the law is designed to target only producers and distributors of pornography, not everyday internet users.
