After signing up for self-deportation, Emily and Deybis sold their car and moved to an unfinished basement. But DHS never sent them the promised plane tickets.

Article excerpt: Emily said she made clear the family didn’t have Venezuelan passports but was told that wouldn’t be a problem; the U.S. government would procure any necessary documents for them. They said the operator gave them an Aug. 1 departure date and told them to expect their plane tickets by email.

Emily and Deybis sold their car and moved with their children to Columbus, Ohio, where Deybis’ nephew let them stay in his unfinished basement apartment until their departure. The plane tickets never came.

Then the nephew was detained in a traffic stop and deported. Panicked, Emily and Deybis said they called the toll-free number again and again, leaving messages that went unanswered. Emily submitted a new application and sent more emails.

whenever I go in REI, all I see is stuff that I know I can get cheaper somewhere else, including their own website. It’s good to go in and see stuff in person, but you need an area with a lot of people with a lot of disposable income to keep that physical store going at those prices

I don’t know. But you are implying bad faith from someone trying to help. He didn’t have to even make a statement. I doubt most celebs want to announce where they will be ahead of time. And if he doesn’t go, who knows what amt of money he might of donated? There are actual enemies, TG isn’t one

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

it's short in the movie, but i love the part in the book where it's the hobbits and Aragorn walking toward Rivendell. so much great imagery in the writing in that part

The more they push these raids around the country, the more it becomes a local issue for more people. Once it goes from the abstraction of “illegals” to “people from my kid’s school” I think people that have their heads in the sand will hopefully wake up
