Last year, when I was in the hospital and had to sign off on a form that said “your chances of survival are a coin toss at best” I bitterly regretted it because I knew that I couldn’t tell my kids or others I loved goodbye or give them a blessing or say how I felt.

Life is so beautiful, and I am glad that I could recognize that even before I had my little misfortune.

I am also cognizant that I am extremely lucky that I can end and begin my days by saying “I love you”

This is one of the last photos I took as a healthy person before getting sick last year.

Last night, I kissed my wife and said “I love you” and it was the last thing I said before falling asleep.

Today, I said “who loves a dog? I do” to my Labrador and that was the first words I said.
