Why do I post a lot about being trans? It's about normalizing us everywhere, including the halls of power. I spent today in the Capitol chatting with university presidents and staffers. I walked with a Senator & talked about our budget priorities. Yesterday I lobbied two GOP staffers.

A cool thing about the trans lesbian thing is you'll have done so much work for the whole trans aspect that you'll forget when you're walking down the street hand in hand with your girlfriend that for a lot of people the lesbian part is still a big deal.

Last year a Teaching Professor on a continuing appointment who wasn't even eligible until 2024's cycle won. To have faculty embrace alternate academic ranks and contracts, our current reward systems have to adapt, and I like to think our DPOY Award is an example of helpful adaptation. (3/3)

2 years ago we changed our Professor of the Year Award eligibility from tenured faculty to full-time faculty to recognize those faculty instrumental to undergrad learning and research not on tenure track. Our provosts recognized fewer & fewer faculty were even eligible despite being essential (2/3)

My area of study is HE governance not labor, but as a higher ed policymaker, I'm interested in Brendan's thoughts here (since tenure "reform" policy largely won't be made by academics anyway)

One thing that comes up repeatedly is what's valued in tenure & promotion processes / other rewards - (1/3)

1/ I’m feeling wacky this morning so here is my suggestion to reform tenure!

Blanket tenure replaced with a set of multi-year contracts.

Start: 3 + 5. A three year probationary contract followed by a 5 year second contract. On all faculty have the same teaching/research expeditions; field normed.
