"If queer and trans folks are going to survive, we’ll need to once again embrace the underground, and learn when to be visible and when to shut the fuck up."

Hello~ i wrote something for @theverge.com about the surreal horror of online transness in a fascist surveillance state.

it’s time to change tactics and make ourselves less legible to this machinery of death — but *without* sacrificing our connection and community.
The return of the trans underground
The internet once helped trans people connect and organize. Now it’s a dangerous liability. What comes next?

I’m so proud of this show we made, and I cannot overstate the extent to which it would not have been any good (or even existed at all) without Travis

Working on this show was one of the most fun, collaborative experiences I’ve had as a producer. Psyched that we finally get to share, please look forward to new eps every Sunday! youtu.be/fjXXDGx5Ggg?...

pushing worldcoin ahead of deepfakeocalypse is like giving us a weird umbrella like "you're gonna need this later trust me" and then dropping a piano on us

Earlier this week, I watched OpenAI CEO Sam Altman drink from a gigantic mango juice box & remark aloud about how it was half his size. The catch: None of it was real.

But the most concerning part is that I couldn’t tell the deepfake from reality.

OpenAI made a TikTok for deepfakes, and it’s getting hard to tell what’s real
We’ll see how this goes…

"A lot of gen AI supporters see it as a tool that’s 'democratizing' art by lowering traditional barriers to entry like 'learning how to draw,' 'learning how to play an instrument,' or 'learning how to write a story.'"

I need people who complain about film critics to decide if we love everything or hate everything. Gets tiresome to argue both

Oh, and the tracks are not labelled AI obviously bsky.app/profile/lizp...
lizpelly.bsky.social
i think tracks made fully using gen AI should be clearly labeled in ways that actually serve the avg user -
giving labels/distributors the ability to opt-in to submit metadata disclosing use of AI to be added to credits is a start but still far away from what’s needed

Chotiner: You've written a lot about the band Weezer over the years.
Me: That's right.
Chotiner: And The Blue Album is their best work as you've said.
Me: 100%. Always has been.

Me: Can we go off the record real quick?

Everything we thought we knew about game consoles is changing, and faster than ever before.

My take: "The box will continue to be the tip of the spear, but it’s no longer the point."
