Bovino, on resistance to their operations in Chicago: “I didn’t have any reason to think it would be this bad, but it’s far worse than I ever thought.”

For the most part, they’ve been met by whistles, insults, and the occasional person blocking a vehicle.

I guess they’ve always been cartoonishly evil to the people living through it. But i never couldve imagined how cartoonish they act in real time.

They’re drawing a big chalk line around a sub sandwich like it’s a CSI investigation 😭

Defense is now questioning Lairmore on cross-examination. They show a video still of the sandwich and wrapper on the ground, post-throw.

"Do you recognize that sandwich?" the attorney asks.

Lairmore won't confirm.

"I did not go back to collect it," he says.

Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

So many people were detained extrajudicially, were tortured, or died because of Dick Cheney. You can't get to the danger we're in now without everything he did. The weapons he helped forge are ones we need to take away from U.S. presidents forever.
Thank you for all of your hard work covering this. Ya’ll court reporters are providing such a vitally important public service right now. Flowers flowers flowers 💐 💐 💐

When Judge Ellis read Bovino’e oath of office back to him last week, my first thought at “against all enemies, foreign and domestic" was that Bovino simply sees anyone opposed to his mission as a domestic enemy, justifying violent state action.

This certainly lines up with that theory.
Overnight court filings seem to be giving us a peek at what U.S. Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino said in his deposition so far (it apparently continues today):

Where America stands, one year after the election.

A fascistic movement controls the government; they are building an authoritarian state; but they have not been able yet to extend authoritarian rule across society. A democracy no more, but not a consolidated autocratic regime yet.

New piece:
Escalation, Authoritarian “Normalization,” or a Democratic Turnaround?
One year after the election: What we can say with certainty about the state of the Trumpist assault, where uncertainty lies, and where America might go from here

Lol that’s the only FF movie that i actually like. I love how he’s “just some guy.” Incredibly old hollywood casting decision, like if your coworker or your local mechanic randomly got talent scouted into a leading role

Immigration agents crashed into a U.S. citizen on her way to work—then dragged her out of her car and arrested her.

Her family couldn’t find her for hours.
She was later released without charges.

People fucking hate this guy. They fucking hate ICE. They fucking hate how much power he has. He is at 63% overall disapproval to 37% approval. That's lower than their poll after January 6th. And this poll was done before he started intentionally starving people. I wish our media would reflect this.

Early this morning, our city still plunged into darkness, I set off to walk the Brooklyn Bridge.

As the sun came up, we were joined by canvassers, labor leaders, elected officials, and working people — a movement to bring a new day to our city.

Tomorrow, we win it together.
“Ohhh no i cheered for big daddy government to attack, terrorize, and deport a shitton of skilled Latinos so that I could finally get a real job and a christian wife and now i can’t pay my rent or find a decent date? Who could have forseen?! I mustve been great replacemented or some dumb shit”
Hahahahahahahaha no way! I can’t believe the arrogant, low-skilled losers who have loudly pursued violent mass deportations (overt ethnic cleansing) to magically advance their personal prospects might be…losers?
Nobody is more of a parasite of the public good than MAGA-throating fascist men.

One time. The GOP has won more than 50% of the popular vote <one time> since 1992. And yet, every day, you are bombarded with Takes™️ from Ezra Douthglesias about how deeply unpopular The Democrats and their policy platform are, without any reflection on how the same standard applies to the GOP.
The Dems have won the popular vote in presidential elections six times since 1992 by roughly 5.5%(1992), 8.5%,(1996) .5%(2000), 7.3%(2008), 4%(2012), 2%(2016),and 4.5%(2020).
In that period the GOP presidential candidate has won the popular vote twice: 2.5%(2004) and 1.5%(2024).
Douthat writes that 2024, when Harris lost by 1.5% of the popular vote, was "an ideological referendum and progressivism lost." I wonder why he didn't view the 2020 election, when Trump lost by 4.5% of the popular vote, as a far more significant loss for conservatism.

we don't regain control if musks and thiels can continue to run around untrammeled and in possession of limitless power. all of these guys will need to be gelded. this isn't about retribution. they are genuinely risks to public safety and security

Not being even vaguely sarcastic:

At some point, a journalist needs to ask Johnson “you regularly claim you have no idea what your own government is doing. If we take you at your word, how are you so poorly informed, and do you this level of ignorance should disqualify you as speaker?”
Q: What's your message to the 170 US citizens who have been detained by ICE? About 20 of them are children

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know what you're talking about with the children. I haven't seen that so I'm not going to comment on it.
