I am certainly no seasoned strategist but I am a little skeptical of the political wisdom behind building a giant golden ballroom and sharing a dozen photos of a renovated marble bathroom at the very moment that millions of people are losing access to healthcare and food.

More than 47 million Americans — including one in five children — don’t have reliable, affordable access to nutritious food. And as the cost of living skyrockets, more families are depending on SNAP benefits, or food stamps, to put food on the table.

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

Best metaphor I've heard is that using AI is like bringing a forklift to lift the weights at the gym. The point is to build YOUR muscles, not to make the weights go up and down.
I love to see stuff like this because it helps explain to people trapped in tech-sponsored information bubbles the actually obvious fact that universities teach people to know & think things, and AI is a way to produce the effect of knowing & thinking things w/o actually knowing & thinking them.

So much of the downfall of our democracy is going to be Democrats thinking wrongly that 1/6 was the end of something—rather than the beginning. They bent over backward to reinforce “norms” with Biden in office, but failed to prioritize legal measures to crush or stymie the rise of authoritarianism.
democrats preserving the fillibuster just for trump to direct republicans to get rid of it was for nothing. democrats should have done this day one in the biden administration but their biggest downfall was assuming that political “norms” were restored after biden won

Oh boy... So I have an X account just made a few days ago so I could keep tabs on the team I work with and have a louder voice (I'm on most social media now, see linktree).

This, I did not expect to see 🙃

NEW: ICE is planning to build a shadow deportation network in Texas. A proposal outlines a 24/7 transport operation run by armed contractors—turning Texas into the logistical backbone of an industrialized deportation machine.

With respect, Tara, no one in their right mind who was just federally indicted would discuss the factual details of their case.

Donald Trump does that kind of thing because he is Donald Trump. That resulted in a criminal conviction and a civil fraud loss at trial, as well as gag orders.
I just had a Katie Porter moment with congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh. The interview lasted 3 minutes.

The President of the United States is so upset about his failed campaign for a Nobel Prize that he's now trying to claim someone else's prize as his own.

Pathetic.

It’s very telling that opening your publication to MAGA “thought” requires a massive downgrade in quality control.

If states want to force women to watch ultrasounds before receiving an abortion, then states SHOULD force gun nuts to watch videos of kids being murdered in schools before buying firearms.

Editorial: As a nation grows sick and the rich grow richer, Catholics must act
Millions of Americans face an imminent health care crisis. Yet hope is faith in action. And the time for Catholics to act is now.

“When so many people are tempted to despair, Pope Leo said, religious leaders must ‘reawaken in all men and women their sense of humanity and of the sacred’ and work ‘to keep hope alive, to keep dialogue alive and to keep love alive in the heart of the world.’”
Really beautiful contrast here by Pope Leo of Nostra Aetete’s call for openness & dialogue w/ the rising of walls again in recent years. Pretty clear implication by the Pope that the Trump-Vance approach is counter to the Catholic Church’s teachings.

“By privileging Afrikaners while continuing to ban thousands of refugees who have already been vetted and approved,” said @irap.bsky.social president Sharif Aly, “the administration is once again politicizing a humanitarian program.”
“The Trump admin is restricting the number of refugees admitted annually to the United States to 7,500 and they will mostly be white South Africans, a dramatic drop announced Thursday that effectively suspends America’s traditional role as a haven for those fleeing war and persecution.”

Alejandro Juárez lived in the United States for decades and worked at one of Trump's golf courses. He has a wife and kids here. ICE “accidentally” deported him to Mexico earlier this year.

Trump’s authoritarian regime is out of control—we’re not going to stop fighting back.

As Trump's failures, unpopularity, decline & madness become impossible to ignore, real cracks are appearing in his Hill support 👇 2/
