Major evolution in the GZDoom community tonight - the regular contributors finally had enough of the project lead, who had been very hard to work with for a long time. He dug in and told them "If you don't like it, go and make your own fork."

UZDoom is now live here.

When we covered the Hugo series for DOS Game Club I sent David P. Gray an email, asking if he was interested in talking to us about his games.

And he said he absolutely wasn't hahah

Today on QUEST QUEST the adventure game podcast, @decafjedi.com and I discuss Hugo's House of Horrors, the ubiquitous shareware adventure game that it seems like everyone's computer lab had. Give us a listen on your podcast app or here: zencastr.com/z/Ij-sShdJ
A man stands outside a spooky haunted house A foyer of a home with many rooms. A mad scientist walks into an upstairs room. An old man fishes at an underground pond. A man is menaced by a mummy. There's money that looks like fries.

Ordering a 3 kg bag of sweets online? Relatable.

Eating too much of them as a result? Understandable.

Keep on eating the next day even though you're not feeling well, and then continue on the next day still even though you're getting worse? That's harder to grasp.

netizen.club/~wildweasel/... - A golf game better than the Legend itself?! Reviewers from 1987 seemed to think so, in a manner of speaking; observations at hand in this month's Golfshrine Acquisitions Update.

When will graphics be better than this?
Screenshot of Ectastica (1994), a game whose characters are drawn entirely using spheres. The scene depicted is a wolf standing on its hind legs punching a woman, who's fallen down as a result. They're in the middle of some sort of medieval town.

You know it's a good game when halfway through there's a quiz, and the questions aren't even related to the game but just general trivia.

Normally puzzles in point & click adventures act as road blocks: you either solve them or you're stuck.

But not so in Don't Escape! You can half botch a puzzle and still carry on with the story! How cool is that??

I think it's really interesting what they've done with Don't Escape here. It doesn't just take the old point & click formula, but brings to the table some new or rarely seen features to make things more interesting.

For example, you can partially solve puzzles in this game, how about that!

Old adventure games are typically very brutal on the player, which is a thing often avoided in more modern ones.

And while it's good when a game doesn't actively hate the player, having deaths and a feeling of real stakes in a game does bring its own excitement.

Don't Escape: 4 Days To Survive by @scriptwelder.com is 80% off on Steam right now.

This is my favourite adventure game of 2019. I love how innovative its mechanics are. This game brings replayability to a whole new level that's rarely seen in point & clicks!
