I'm Mark, I write comics, and this is #PortfolioDay.

I write comics about people in fantastic situations processing real emotions.

My first MG OGN is out next year, and I am pursuing more MG and YA work. Particularly children's fantasy like Earthsea and Prydain.

The Baz Luhrman's Great Gatsby adaptation rules if he swaps Dicaprio and Maguire's roles.

If you adapted this book into film, you could have a very satisfying ending by re-staging the send-off of Raven and Darling during the battle for tower and having Croaker bite it in the last charge while he sees that vision of the White Rose triumphant years down the line.

Finally put The Black Company to bed. It's funny that I know there are, like, ten more installments after this but this thing feels rightfully complete even with a somewhat open ending. There are instances where the writing falters trying to backload and build plot, but it sticks the landing.

My most teen shit-head opinion that I've maintained is that it's better than the movie.

I'm not sure horror even is a genre in prose.

Fantasy has been ruined by dorks who don't actually like reading or writing.

There shouldn't be more than five books in a series unless they're not all direct sequels.

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

I started writing the next one of these in an informal sequence. Water and earth here, and the next one coming is fire.

Haven't finished writing and won't for a minute, but I'll need some money to secure a collaborator.

So anything I sell in my shop is for that: weekendwarriorcomics.com/shop

The Relentless Lark is a 100-page paperback collecting four B/W issues with additional material.

When her superhero father disappears, Jane learns a lot more about the man than she bargained for as she hunts down a copycat.

A comic about trying to make peace with a disappointing/absent parent.
The Relentless Lark Volume One — Weekend Warrior Comics
An urban vigilante goes on a genre-hopping tour of her hometown to hunt down the copycat impersonating her superhero father in the first volume of this superhero comic.

No, yeah, summer camp but where we don't have to be counselors

Hopefully tomorrow I don't pick at the pages too much so I can finish up the panel descriptions and write the letter draft based on my notes.

Only wrote seven pages today, but I have a better grip on how the chapter needs to sound now since I wrote them at least three times.

Immaculate pairings here.

I really hope the Mariners can keep this energy as the series goes on. Still anxious after how grueling the road here was.

The meta read on all them being Ford telling a generation that grew up idolizing his roles "I'm not your dad, and if I was you would be disappointed" has been fun to turn around in my head

Witness is a pretty stellar performance and movie

I do have some quibbles about the translation and some copy-editing oversights. As much as I love these books, they do still feel held back by some thinking that dates back to them being thought of as primarily "for game fans" and not "for people who like books." No bad video game cover, though.

Crossroads of Ravens engages in MAJOR prequel shenanigans but locates all of the "lore explanations" in a specific emotional place for Geralt that feels revelatory rather than annoying. The book notably doesn't rush Geralt's development into the man readers first met him as in the short stories.

All the primary characters in this are various types of immortal (long-lived, healing, self-perpetuating global forces, etc) which has a lovely symmetry with the inherent deathlessness of any cape comics character. Digs into that and uses the opportunity to tell a story about loss and failure.

Re-read an old favorite tonight. Big superhero crossover as an excuse to go smaller and treat the characters with a more tender hand.
