Since the #bsky algorithm is fair, unlike twitter, and creating posts is no longer pointless, I'm the author of #GivingTuesday's #CivicIntent report - a way to measure that sense of "doing good" and "good intentions" that 4 out of 5 Americans feel:

Here's a breakdown of what fraction of the total USA (by zipcodes) are heavily dependent on #SNAP benefits (source: Census / American Communities Survey)

So 13.3% of all zipcodes have at least 20% of the population on SNAP.
Interesting way to evaluate the power of subsidies (or expenses only US citizens pay, like catastrophic medical expenses)

Source: US Census Bureau
Where are large fractions of the population receiving #SNAP (typically, but not in November)?

(compare with counties that supported Trump 1 year ago)
and yet, nobody stole the jewels by breaking this piece of security?
And while seven samurai was a masterpiece at the time, it probably is a bit of a tough watch by today's standards.

I watched it once, a long time ago, and it was good, but a bit unfamiliar at parts. Like the action was TOO FAST compared to the John Woo I was raised to consider "normal"
Kinda reminds you of the way one member of congress is being denied her right to swear in. There's a lot of complaining but not enough jail sentences being handed out for these types of power-grabs.
Someone like that should never have become governor.

It is our job to vet "local" politicians else they become national demogogues.

I could have destroyed one NC Senator when he was nobody, winning my neighborhood with less than 4000 votes, had I run against him. This was a hard lesson for me.
How about:
"30 Helens wasn't enough. How can 9 be?"

I know it is dated ca. 1988 but we gotta start somewhere

Chicagoland going for MVP:

“This is beyond anyone’s wildest imagination in the best possible way,” Khan said. “It’s overwhelmingly amazing, and we just want to make sure we get food to people who need it the most.”

Evanston food drive overwhelms 'in the best possible way' as SNAP recipients face uncertainty
Many waited more than an hour to drop off bags of groceries during a food drive at Evanston Township High School.

IF you wanted a bot that would help you track these, I built one -- @mention nano2love.bsky.social
there are hashtags for writers on bsky, like #nano2 or #amwriting so you're not doing it alone
Y'all know about their bar bet, where CS Lewis told Tolkien it was impossible to write a fantasy world without a named deity, to which Tolkien replied, "hold my beer!"

(Gandalf's return comes close: "I was sent back" -- yeh, by whom or by what force, exactly? From where?)
Tolkien was likely a humanist but didn't identify that way. Lewis has a whole book about getting to Christianity from starting as a humanist.
Instead of inane scrolling of posts that are not information-rich, why not read about this creepy dude now called Andrew something Windsor and why he's clearly not worthy of any titles

#MTG #Arena powered cube - surprising 17lands data for vintage: No green or black cards at the top. And red+white cards dominate.

Would you have guessed that Ajani and Pyrogoyf are equivalent in power to Ancestral Recall and Time Walk?
I've read LotR at least twice and never caught on to this purpose for Tom Bombadill! Thanks for sharing!
The most useful thing I've heard in the past week is that we're not suffering from information overload; we're starving in an information desert.

All around us is noise but not answers, learning, and real perspective on our world, unfiltered.

Welch: "This has nothing to do with the shutdown. The law requires and the funds are available to continue SNAP right now without any interruption. So that is a decision the president is making on his own to allow people to go hungry."
When AI-day-trading-bots start trading on the future of #AI, that will create an interesting positive feedback loop.

But surely no fintech bros would trust #AI to do that with their money right?
MicroSoft owns 49% of openAI, right? so there's your reality problem
I keep divesting. The DOW could reach 10-billion in imagined future wealth and still crash to zero in day.

It is not propped up by companies so much as it is the media-disinformation machine that works for politics in a similar way.

I think that inflation reality will bring it down.
