He did more than refuse to condemn them. He gave them a convenient excuse to keep right on doing it. If you get caught, just claim it's a "stupid, childish thing to do". Not vile, not morally repulsive, just "stupid and childish". Kids will be kids, etc. (even when they are 20 or 30 yr. olds).
