When we're having a trauma response, our nervous system doesn't need to be told "calm down" or "you're fine."

It needs to be told "I'm here"-- & it needs to experience that it's not alone against this fear or pain.

Presence. Not just words.

Anyone who attends a farewell tour is entitled to go to any future tour by that act for free.

Was just saying today how wonderful it is to have finally gained some control over my insomnia and sleep... so guess who is wide awake now? FFS...

As a whistle player I approve of this use of a statuette and they should be pleased to have created a holder for such a noble instrument!

Why are they all so oddly fat? I'm not exactly skinny myself, but its odd that all four of them are the same exact shape and that shape is not a common one. Or it would be easier to find a suit that fit!

The best way to stop drug deaths is to stop making life so unutterably unbearable for the majority of your citizens... there will always be addicts and abusers, but the opioid crisis in the US is a crisis of poverty, terrible labour laws and despair.

I seem to remember this (or similar) and they tried to ban it because it was so aggressively orange (and we all 'knew' orange caused ADHD). They were selling it on the Isle of Man as a tester and we felt sooooooo cool being able to buy such a controversial drink. It was gross.

I find CGI really distracting. But I do wonder if growing up with Muppets and Thunderbirds and Harryhausen makes it easier to suspend disbelief for puppetry...

Practical effects in films are always, always better than CGI. Even the crappy shark in jaws would have been worse as CGI.

I'm no spring chicken to be fair... but I do need to get on it and stop faffing. Can't seem to get the confidence and have such a glut of material I've no idea where to start!

They've snuck it into Monste: Ed Gein which I enjoyed immensely as historical fiction.

Its the same with a lot of bigotry - homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, ableism - it was quieter and there were repurcussions. Now it is loud and allowed and its come as a shock to a lot of well meaning but sheltered people.

Racism was less obvious to people it did not target because it was deemed socially unacceptable. As a white person I thought we were doing better. Its disappointing to discover that we weren't. And that disappointment, while valid, is then expressed badly... because we're racist!

Sounds like a problem with your feed. I can see people shitting on both plus many others...

We have human sex workers to produce porn, as well as an extensive back catalogue, and it is far more efficient than using the new unfinished tech you're proposing. See how people react when the tech is ready.
manxinwales.bsky.social
So they will pay sex workers for the rights to use their likenesses and material? And existing sex workers will not lose income? And it won't use excessive amounts of energy and water?

Thats the problem with it - not the product, but how it is created and the very real costs to everyone.

I'm not sure letting someone sit down for 60 seconds rather than making them go out and come back in is 'capitulating' it is just common sense and good customer service. I have done it for years. No point risking upsetting someone for the sake of literal seconds.
manxinwales.bsky.social
Yeah, but you didn't read the parentheses that clearly stated this related to people making stuff up and not people who are actually ill. All structures in capitalism expect everyone to power through being ill - just look at Lemsip ads. And the thread was started by someone making up being ill.

Man-cold/man-flu is a term referring to exaggeration of symptoms by a certain type of man-baby that was created by our society. Not every instance of a man getting ill. They specifically clarify that in the parentheses. You have brought your own hang ups.

He's gonna be one of those dickheads for whom a fine is no deterrent because he can just pay it isn't he?

Bold of you both to assume that this Manx girl wasn't referring to the Manx guy! (I've worked with him on a few bits but due to a variety of issues am struggling to get anything published... I'm folk song/music/dance so we cross over a lot!)

I should point out that I have spent a life in customer service and if you can't tell that letting someone sit down 60 seconds before your opening time is preferable to the row of trying to stop it (which is likely to take at least 60 seconds anyway) then you have a lot to learn.

This isn't some labour rights issue... some person volunteering in a cafe did a daft/unnecessary/petty thing and got called out. Being expected to work outside of paid hours is a genuine problem, but not when that time can be measured is seconds! Grow up!
