The original is a weird, transgressive, horror movie that depends a lot on suspense & a sense of “something is not right” & even in its conclusion, there’s a definite idea things are not really over. It’s a favorite of my mine & my wife. We watch it every year.

Thanks to @comicsinthega.bsky.social for inspiring this. It seems uniquely appropriate to post these today, in spooky month, on the anniversary of Bernie Wrightson’s (a master of horror) birthday.

I bought these two signed books just slightly before Bernie passed. The seller was in a bit of a bad way money-wise, as happens, and I felt a little guilt at the price I paid. Seller assured me he was happy they went to me, to my personal collection and not for resale. I really love them and the glowing blue pen Bernie used is great!

Though I’m not a Batman guy, this is an iconic cover. Wrightson’s use of light and dark, shadows and contrast is masterful.

The seller of this book and I have a long established rapport, and I never expected him to sell this book. I believe I paid an equitable price considering grade and sig. I’d like to eventually find a similar copy minus the sig and find a new home for this with a fan.

Today is the birthday of legendary artist Bernie Wrightson (Oct. 27, 1948-March 18, 2017.)

3. MB reported (& I also heard clearly) the staccato sound of a belted kingfisher at along the shore. I saw one clearly last year but yesterday I only saw it in silhouette as it flew, though it was audible at some distance. 3 stars for having a dog on leash limiting me

1. Bald eagle on Long Pond in South Yarmouth, MA! 5 stars no notes
2. MerlinBird has reported the golden-crowned kinglet here many times. I finally saw it! That’s a tiny bird I can finally add to my life list.
