This point in particular really sticks out to me because when I try and describe these “generic classes” to friends who don’t come from cultures where Tolkein is the default fantasy, it’s a struggle. The TTRPG space is very Eurocentric in a lot of ways that people often don’t realize

When you see "monk" or "druid" or "paladin" in a ttrpg, that is not a fictive role that emerged from the source but a chimera of cultural, movie, and genre fiction references. If you are not aware of the references it draws from you are given very few hand holds to grab onto.
