Nothing wants to suffer. Not the wind
as it scrapes itself against the cliff. Not the cliff

being eaten, slowly, by the sea. The earth does not want
to suffer the rough tread of those who do not notice it.

The trees do not want to suffer the axe, nor see
their sisters felled by root rot, mildew, rust.

The coyote in its den. The puma stalking its prey.
These, too, want ease and a tender animal in the mouth

to take their hunger. An offering, one hopes,
made quickly, and without much suffering.

The chair mourns an angry sitter. The lamp, a scalded moth.
A table, the weight of years of argument.

We know this, though we forget.

Not the shark nor the tiger, fanged as they are.
Nor the worm, content in its windowless world

of soil and stone. Not the stone, resting in its riverbed.
The riverbed, gazing up at the stars.

Least of all, the stars, ensconced in their canopy,
looking down at all of us— their offspring—

scattered so far beyond reach."

Early this year I joined a mutual aid group who were reading Dreaming Disability Justice by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna - Samarasinha. We were all knackered and disabled and ND and it was a very chill approach to the book but I got a lot out of it.

We could get creative and bring an object or doodle around a key word in the book, we could use prompt questions, we could just compare bookmarks.

We could chat about the bit we read for half the meeting and then spend the remainder quietly reading/snoozing/ doing nothing together.

The West Tofts hand axe, with its fossilised shell, is one of the most popular objects on display at MAA. It has been assumed that the position of the shell was an aesthetic choice by the axe's creator, but this interpretation has been challenged. What do you think? 1/2

Our neighbours wife died and the coroner attributed it in part to mould so he called the no win no fee solicitors to door knock around our street. Weirdly, the council housing association suddenly found money to fit ventilators and replace mouldy windows....

I think I did harm by participating in a 'we can fit in, look at us conform!' Narrative. It didn't shift stigma as much as it sanitised mad people and obscured the reality.

And I think the realest bit of that conversation was the bit before we filmed, because there's just a lot that you can't put into a neat two minute soundbite, it's not pretty.

I did do a piece with Bev Callard and my memory of it was all of us lived exp people and Bev getting deep into the horrors we'd been through in the system. Before cameras rolled, Bev said 'let's all swear and say fuck to get it out of our system'.

Me and Mum went to London for the media training and we freaked everyone out bc when my mum did her video rehearsal, she was so dissociated (traumatised parent) she didn't use my name once. We were the odd ones in the room. We didn't get a call back.

I did media stuff for Time to Change and Rethink and looking back, it was very sanist, we had a BBC style media trainer, the messaging was very much about fitting in and being lovable.

I grew up in a house where decision making was done in secret with much passive aggression or any decision became a white knuckle ride of dysfunctional turmoil. So it's always heartening when I am part of collective decision making that is respectful and honest and no one throws stuff.

Still resting up but sharing bc it made me smile today. '"Phantom had an epic sexy wrestle with Molly, a 1 yr lab poodle cross. In a pile of cowshit. Then he waded into the stream (good job he was on the lead.) He had to have a flannel bath of shame out by the bins and is now damp and smug."

Right, I am going to hibernate until I shift this 'orrible lurgy that I'm still full of. I won't be up to printing anything if I don't get well and I have a Riso session on Saturday so off I go. Be good to each other.

I’ve finished this #linocut - it’s the former Price Kensington teapot factory in Stoke-on-Trent. It was going to have a lot more detail, but I kind of fell for the orange roofline silhouette #printmaking #StokeOnTrent #pottery #TeaPotFactory

I can sing the phone number for Hastings Direct Car Insurance despite never owning a car. I'm so old I remember getting used to dialling a 1 after ph0NEday. Back then, you could run out of numbers, kids.
