Oh, absolutely, we have to call out the racism loudly and publicly! We’re definitely on the same page about it.
lizwfab.bsky.social
Interrogating why certain films are held up as classics is an important part of studying film history. The key question is: if it wasn’t pioneering, what industry and cultural mechanisms created the illusion of it? Why did a racist, boring film hold so firm in the canon? And how do we avoid that?
lizwfab.bsky.social
I tend to lean towards contextualizing the racism of the film within the canon, rather than throwing it out altogether. For example, I like to pair Birth of a Nation with Oscar Micheaux’s Within Our Gates to talk about the cultural construction of racism and Black artists who pushed back.

Working from home with a cold, and Regina refuses to teach my classes. So rude. #whatprofessorswear

It’s a toss-up between “All along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix and “With a Little Help from My Friends” by Joe Cocker.

Some Very Good Creatures I Saw in Paintings Yesterday
Black Cat on Orange Background by Alex Katz (a painting of a black cat loafing against an orange background) The lower-right corner of Confidences by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, which features a fluffy white dog Close-up of the hare in Hare and Tortoise by Margeurite Thompson Zorach. The hare has its eyes closed and looks very pleased with itself. Close up of a horse in Union Square Fire Brigade by Samuel Wood Gaylor, Jr. The horse is in a stable that says SPARK PLUG in blue letters

Hello I am on honeymoon with the love of my life, and we saw this disco deer at an art museum, and it brought us both joy. Also pictured: us in the museum elevator.

So Allagash Brewery has the best gender-neutral bathroom setup, where it’s one room with fully enclosed toilet stalls and a row of sinks at the front.

But unfortunately that does mean that we were able to count the number of men who didn’t wash their hands after peeing.

I regret to inform you that I don't at all regret to inform you that @lizwfab.bsky.social and I started off our honeymoon being fucking adorable.
A photo of two white hands on a tabletop. Liz is wearing an apple watch and their wedding ring, and I'm wearing the spider ring that came in my cocktail over my wedding rings. Because I'm also married to spookiness, obvs. A picture of a white person with short dark hair, wearing a leopard print dress. Liz is sitting in the booth across from me at a restaurant with their hand on their cheek making an excited face. They're wearing the spider ring from my cocktail on their pinky. A photo of two white people. I'm on the left with pink hair, a cardigan, overalls, and tank top, hugging Liz over their shoulders. Liz is hugging me with their cheek on my chest, wearing white heart shaped sunglasses. A photo of two white people on an old trolley. I'm on the left wearing brown overalls, a yellow tank top, and holding a small pumpkin. Liz is on the right wearing a leopard print dress and holding a small pumpkin. We're both smiling for the camera.
