With confirmation in the last few days that extreme weather has meant England has suffered it's second worst harvest on record (so now three of the worst five have been in the last five years) may we hold the farming community in our prayers and care #ADifferentKindOfHarvestFestival

Yes, that's kind of what I was thinking - it's not that far off, but it's still not where he is just yet!

(The problem with Imrie, who I adore, is that all of her amazingness is in programs which the smol is... still that little bit too smol for. Although he is very much enjoying her on Celeb Traitors, hence the conversation.)

Attempted to explain why Celia Imrie is an icon to #puer at the weekend, leading t'other half to say 'she was in that program on the telly about the antiques shop' (with an entirely innocent face), prompting a conversation about how old the smol needs to be before getting the full Victoria Wood.

My parents have always bought art, but very much in the 'here is a local exhibition we went to and we really liked that piece so we bought it' kind of way. I now have lovely things on my walls from following the same principle. I 'get' art as investment but it's sadly soulless.

Thankfully (?) this one doesn't have an interview, just a paper submission, but yes. I know that Other People would be perfectly happy to bluster their way through and feel they deserved it...

Graphic design is their passion.

There are plenty of other things to be getting on with, at least. But it would be good to know what's happening with this one. Might be a post-Christmas job, if only because at that point I might have some bandwidth. Maybe.

I mean, there's trash and then there's academic trash...

I am very aware that I may not like the answer!

*checks* Submission was in late January this year, and it was out with reviewers in May, but there's a note on the journal's page dated August about a submission pause with transition to a new on-line platform, and I wonder if that's partly responsible, but also, that is objectively a while. Sigh.

"Why can't you just TRUST ME that I won't spend the whole time on a beanbag with trashy books and a big box of chocolates?? Whyyyy???"

Situation not helped by Queer Beaches, which is still MIA. I should follow that up, but let's face it, I haven't got the bandwidth to work on an R&R at the moment.

So apparently part of the problem with writing a research grant is that it's hard to sound perky about Your Brilliant Idea when you're pretty sure that nobody is interested in Your Brilliant Idea but you'd still quite like to be given some money to curl up in a library thinking about it anyway.

Back to working on this grant application. There is more staring into space. This is not the fun bit and frankly I almost wish they were just operating it as a lottery system. (But it is one of the grants with a smaller paperwork load, so I'll take it.)

Hmmm. On the edge of panic and overwhelm today. Have had to remind myself to keep breathing twice. This is not entirely justified on the basis of the evidence.

@drmaimusie.bsky.social Mai, I have just twigged that you've joined NCACE! How extremely exciting - they are very lucky to have you, and I hope you're having a wonderful time!
