Watching people being brutalized by the state, secure in the knowledge that I'm safe because I don't do anything wrong. And the best part? The state can't suddenly and arbitrarily redefine what "wrong" means

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

I wrote a little about some of the little details you might have missed in this video and why it hit me so hard as a trans person this morning:

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

It's a sinister place. The brutality there seems both new and very, very old. And in many ways it's still just a regular office building. But then you turn a corner and the worst shit is happening.

"The 10th floor is filled with notoriously squalid cells. If an immigrant is summoned to 26 Federal’s courtrooms, there is no guarantee they will leave with their freedom."

The Jacob K. Javits Building is where I started my federal career. It has become a hunting ground, a prison.
It’s the Place for Immigrants Who Do Things “the Right Way.” ICE Has Turned It Into Hell.
Immigrants come to court-mandated appointments in search of citizenship. They find masked, armed agents instead.

NYC peeps, it takes too darn long to build new homes in this city. If you want to help turn this housing crisis around, tell your friends to vote YES on props 2,3,4, and 5.

Even better, come through for the @yesonaffhousing.bsky.social rally Oct. 15 at City Hall!

I really appreciate the brevity of this letter and its focus on MIT's values. Kornbluth doesn't fall into the trap of rehashing all the points in the so-called compact, but instead summarizes them as "principles with which we disagree."

Seriously, watch this. Descriptions won’t do it justice. There’s no technical difficulty.

The amazing pause here from Miller is him realizing he said the quiet part out loud (probably a few months early) and then freezing like a possum in the face of a coyote or something as a defensive measure.

Not Stephen Miller accidentally outting the regime in an interview. Let that "plenary authority" claim slip right out and then had to act like the audio cut out.

Sir! We heard you.. and the President does NOT have plenary authority.

So…the administration’s Big Plan is to use tariff money (paid by American consumers) to bail out the farmers whose market crashed due to those same tariffs.
