My local library even has a seed library— you take seeds out, and bring seeds back from what you grow!

That’s also a super handy thing in developing seeds that can stand up to local climate change!

So, gardeners, go ask your library if they have one or could start one! 🌱

So yes, financially times are shit. But if you haven't been to your local public library in a minute, or if you're only using it for books, I encourage you to check out what's available, stop by and visit. Libraries here are BUSY and it's probably busy where you live too!

The other reason I love libraries, and the reason I chose this career, is that libraries are one of the few places that still give things away for free, no strings attached. Libraries are a political statement just by existing. It is not about making money. Libraries are about the public good.

Libraries also have a reciprocal relationship with authors. That new book that just came out? We bought 13 copies. We bought it in ebook. We bought it in eaudiobook. And that means those authors we love can keep on writing because the library bought their book, patrons go the library = funding.

In most places, library funding is tied to public use. So the more you use the public library, the more funding they get. And the more resources the library gets, the more free stuff they can give you! RECIPROCITY. My favorite.
