Not fully happy but I dunno if I want to to fiddle more with it or call it done.

Tried a bunch of new stuff with it already so may quit while I'm ahead.

Fantasy setting Monica doing her thing. Pondering if I want to make this her new default setting instead of Modern.

#art #oc
Art of Monica Hall (a half-elf/half-dwarf bard) sliding onto a bench in a tavern to serenade three women with her lute. The women seem to be enjoying the performance, as well as the view she is providing by wearing a sleeveless vest with no shirt beneath it.

If that came up she might have a bit of a crisis, since her hierarchical focus is based on the premise that that hierarchy is morally upright.

Could say she's a little naive in that regard. We'll see how she handles navigating the coup and civil war, and if she changes her ideals coming out of it.
lgooms.bsky.social
She's rather hierarchically minded, in that she'll follow orders from those above her—and give orders to those below her—without a thought.

This is with the presupposition that they're good orders, though. She's lucky in that she's never had to follow bad orders.
lgooms.bsky.social
Kath better be good at taking orders, to have lasted seven years as a squire in order to become a royal knight.

It's still a situation where she's followed orders to get herself into a position where she doesn't need to as much anymore. Royal knights in Saelia are given lots of leeway in peacetime.

How is your character at taking orders?

Do they prefer that someone else make the decisions? Are they a rebel? Do they avoid the whole situation whenever possible? Would they rather be giving the orders?

We don't get a full physical description of Kath until the princess sees her, and vice versa. It's more fun to see them as they are through each other's eyes than try to shoehorn in a mirror scene or whatnot.

Lynna's trying not to spill tea on herself as she notes how Kath has changed.
Even from the side Lynnari could see her back and shoulders were broad and muscular beneath her doublet. Her arms were similar- thick biceps flexing noticeably beneath the fabric as the woman moved her hands up in an attempt to gently—and unsuccessfully—stop Elena from fussing with the buttons of her collar. The princess' eyes lingered on the noticable swell of her chest, and despite the looseness of the doublet around the woman's waist Lynnari could tell she was sturdy but still rather slender. Her trousers similarly could not hide the fact that they were being filled out by a quite lovely, firm backside.

She was... beautiful. There was no other word for it in Lynnari's mind. The princess found herself holding her breath as she stared, and after a moment she breathed in with a slight gasp.

The sound drew the attention of the new arrival, whose emerald green eyes widened noticeably as soon as she laid eyes on the princess.

Lynnari carefully set the half-full cup and its saucer on the bed, then got to her feet. The woman's eyes followed her upwards, and the princess clasped her hands in front of herself while nervously clearing her throat.

"H-hello, Kath."

I give up on bad games pretty easily. Most of the time I don't see credits on them.

So it's Transistor.

I hated the gameplay, hated the character narrating, and loathed the ending. Just a game tailor made to piss me off.

Which was a real bummer considering the brilliance of its predecessor.

What's the worst game you finished/rolled credits on?

(games media folks, it can't be something you were assigned to review; this has to be something you subjected yourself to of your own free will)
lgooms.bsky.social
Won't be pretty when she fully burns out.
lgooms.bsky.social
You may notice this isn't a lot of stuff for her own well-being. That it's practical in the moment, learning a skill, or taking care of someone else.

Yup.

Kath isn't a person who can sit still, and she doesn't value time just for herself. There always has to be a purpose she's working towards.
lgooms.bsky.social
During the overland travel with Lynna, she'll be talking a lot in general. Stories that happened over the last seven years, explanations for whatever task she's doing at the moment, mythology.

The goal is to keep Lynna comfortable and focused, being a rock for her after their world gets upended.
lgooms.bsky.social
There was a lot of ship travel during Kath's seven year squireship. She was free from having to work on the ship (no one gives Ser Sunea's squire orders other than Ser Sunea) so there was a lot of open time. Lots of reading, equipment maintenance, and training sword footwork on unsteady surfaces.

Ok about to have a long drive. Might post this and dip for a bit (but I will be back!)

So, tell me how your characters keep themselves occupied during a long horse/car/ship trip!

Games? Stories? Podcasts?

This word gets us the first page of the rewrite.

A big list of proper nouns right off the bat, but nothing we're supposed to retain. Just used to express the feeling she's been to a lot of places except home the last few years.
With the sea spray misting in her hair, Katherina looked off towards the horizon. Far to the southeast—but getting closer all the time—was the ultimate destination of Saelia's Royal Sailing Ship Tenebrous.

A week out from Drumbeat Island, where Katherina had spent a month inspecting the defenses with her knight patron. Before then, nearly a year training up the garrisons of The Cobalt Triplets. Fall's Haven island before that. Valshire Isle. Rockfill peninsula. Arnora. Every inhabited island and coastal port city within the Saelian-controlled waters of Orryna's Sound.

Nearly seven years of travel. Seven years of combat practice, tactical instruction, logistics management, survival training. Seven years being away from her adopted home.

After seven years, Saelia's capital city had finally come into view. Brightly lit by the sunrise at Katherina's back and sheltered by tall cliffs surrounding the bay, the city gleamed like a precious jewel. The city that had given its name to the nation that grew around it. Where Katherina had grown up, where her only family was, and where she had decided to set off on this path to potential knighthood.

Queen of the Underworld.

lgooms.bsky.social
On foot, over land. The bulk of the story is them trying to keep one step away from her uncle's forces, navigating through the growing civil war and trying to get to a friendly neighboring country to request aid.

As it goes along, they grow closer and eventually- romance. Simple, but I like it.
lgooms.bsky.social
During the final day's celebration, or maybe the day after I'm not sure yet, the queen's older brother attempts a bit of a coup. The capital sent into disarray, his forces seizing the palace but the queen escapes on a ship.

Katherina saves Lynnari from the soldiers coming to kill her, and they run.
lgooms.bsky.social
Katherina returns when she is 20 and Lynnari is 18, and they have an immediately charged reaction to seeing one another. It's the start of the queen's tricennial celebration though, so nothing can come of it yet.

Katherina competes in the tournament and wins, and gets knighted at the end.
lgooms.bsky.social
I'm rewriting the entire thing, but the core is the same.

Princess Lynnari was childhood friends with a girl two years older than her, Katherina. Feelings grew in the way that they manifest among preteens, but then Katherina became a knight's squire and had to leave as the knight traveled.
lgooms.bsky.social
I'd want to be Monica permanently, so to avoid the disappointment of having to turn back I'll say Varda instead.

Being an 8' tall indestructible alien bodyguard would be pretty cool for a little while. The "emits deadly radiation" and "might accidentally crush anything with her strength" less so.
Drawing of Varda Chelou, by Shardanic.

A muscular alien woman with crimson red skin and shiny gold hair wearing casual, revealing workout clothing.
