A wonderful tour around the Leeds Central Library as part of the @leedscivictrust.bsky.social Heritage Open Days. Lovely to see some of the areas that the public are not normally allowed access to and to also learn so much history about this beautiful building

There are so many quirky landmarks hidden away in the suburbs of Leeds, like this beautiful 1842 aqueduct built to carry drinking water from Eccup Reservoir. Taken with an Olympus Pen EE3 and Ilford XP2. #leeds @leedscivictrust.bsky.social #35mmfilm #realphotography @ilfordphoto.com
📣More Heritage Open Days booklets have been dropped off to all Leeds Libraries, museums and galleries!

Oooh, this is near me. I love a Blue Plaque and this one is well deserved.
🔵For Heritage Open Days 2025, we are delighted to unveil our 204th Blue Plaque to celebrate Gipton Fire Station, a vital part of East Leeds’ history that served the community for nearly eight decades and is now repurposed as a Community Hub.

A very informative and interesting tour by the @leedscivictrust.bsky.social this evening. To celebrate 60 years, we explored six arcades in Leeds City Centre. I love County Arcade, it is a personal favourite and the architecture is simply beautiful.

📹A few months ago, we hired an intern to carry out an oral histories project.

🎤Our intern Sakshi is interviewing Leeds Civic Trust members, volunteers and stakeholders to create a video documentary about our work over the last 60 years...
📚Historian Steven Burt and Urban Geographer Rachael Unsworth are publishing a book on the history of Chapel Allerton. They are campaigning for 400 people to reserve a copy of the book.

🚍Inside the 1960s Daimler bus we toured in on Saturday were several signs that were on display at the time the bus was decommissioned.

By stunning coincidence, one sign mentioned Leeds Civic Trust! We were the publishers and vendors of 'A Guide to Walks on Footpaths in Leeds'.
We ventured across Leeds on a 1960s Daimler bus, from Leeds City Centre, to Kirkstall Abbey, to Middleton Railway, getting expert commentary from our trustee & historian Clifford Stead on developments in Leeds over the last 60 years & plans for the future.

A great trip on the @leedscivictrust.bsky.social Heritage Bus Tour. Leeds City - Kirkstall Abbey - Leeds City - Middleton Railway, to munch our way through a 1960s style packed lunch 🥪 🍏 Brilliantly guided, history shared & news of new developments + a talk from the team at Middleton Railway. #leeds
Our exhibition is up until 28 June in Kirkgate Market on Butchers Row (near George Street entrances)
Worth noting that LOP pages feature in 3 exhibitions currently on in Leeds on totally different topics. There's women's #AnimatedActivism at @lulgalleries.bsky.social, football fans at @leedslibraries.bsky.social and economic development at the market via @leedscivictrust.bsky.social.
Much missed.
