I've seen plenty of aberrant plumaged Carrion Crows over the years, but I'm sure that they have all been black/white or black/grey (when Hoodie hybrids), which made this 1 at Kinneil LNR the other day all the more noticeable #BirdingScotland @kinneil.bsky.social
Or perhaps a mutation having some connection to the nearby ‘Corbie’ Inn - renowned for its excellent real ale…! 🍺
Interesting: that must be the Rust-Mottled Crow - a particular Bo'ness sub-species having evolved alongside the area's cast-iron, industrial and shipbreaking heritage... 😉
Fatally wounded & highest-ranking casualty during defeat by Jacobites at Battle of Prestonpans 280 years ago #OTD, 21 September 1745 - Colonel James Gardiner, of 13th Dragoons - born 1687 at Burnfoot, Carriden, just East of Bo'ness & remembered in plaque at Carriden Kirk this morning

We’ve had a wonderful day out!We started at the Barony Theatre watching the RSNO perform live and listening to the story of ‘Yoyo and The Little Auk”.We then went to Kinneil woods and took time to slow down and explore in nature.R remembered how to identify brambles and we found some oak trees too!
This weekend (6/7 September) don't miss spectacle of historic Bo'ness Hill Climb motor-racing event + (on Sunday) Classic Car Show! *NB!* both Kinneil House & Museum will be closed for event, & with no indoor/outdoor guided tours

Church on Sunday ✝️ … Spotted this summer in Panes, Asturias, Spain - Romanesque Church of St John of Ciliergo, with uncanny likeness to Kinneil Kirk & from similar period: ruined in Spanish Civil War, recently restored by local council #historicscotland #celticconnections
*Please note*: regrettably our usual volunteer-led free outdoor guided walk at Kinneil at midday this Saturday, 30 August, & next Saturday, 6 September, will not take place due to other activities & events taking place - sincere apologies - next free guided walk will be Saturday 13 September

We kind of guessed that the lumps of #pottery often with a intriguing thumb and forefinger print that litter Bo’ness foreshore (West Lothian) held a utensil now thanks to former project volunteer Kerry we now know what - firing cup/jug handles
