On this date, Matthew Shephard died 27 years ago. He was beaten, tortured, and left for dead on fence for being gay. Please keep him and his wonderful mother Judy in your thoughts. And let's all work for a world where such horrific things do not happen to anyone. ❤️🏳️‍🌈

The ALCS is on FOX.

The NLCS is on a mysterious channel, only viewable by delivering a gift of a blood sword & a live bat to a warlock who lives at the end of a labyrinth somewhere on the outskirts of L.A.

🧪 Some history:

Relentless activism in the dim and distant 80s brought us developments of HIV treatments such as antiretroviral therapy i.e. Descovy.

This is a brilliant example of why we need in-your-face activism now, more than ever.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

I can relate. People assumed I was a yoga teacher until I told them what I do.

Also I’m not immune to mansplaining.

The lab leak conspiracy theorists running the US health agencies are getting kookier & kookier 🤦‍♂️

In fact, research shows that “the Lyme disease bacterium is ancient in North America, circulating silently in forests for at least 60,000 years” (medicine.yale.edu/news-article...)

I was thinking "on this date" in 1918, Captain Harry Truman was likely fighting in France in the waning days of #WW1.

He's the right guy to be handing out the Medal of Honor.

I struggled to find a contemporary version of the events of that day, but here's the @nytimes.com from October 13th. Might be paywalled.

as stated briefly in the newsreel, Corporal Doss was a conscientious objector.

His heroics at Hacksaw Ridge in Okinawa were made into the 2016 movie. Andrew Garfield was nominated for an Oscar playing Doss.

A US senate subcommittee was told this unpublished vaccine study was 'the most important ever.' Henry Ford Health now confirms why it was never published: it failed scientific standards.

Here's what's actually wrong with the study:
