COFFIN MOON cover on a bright yellow/dirty black background. Title is in bright orange, as is part of the background that fades to black. In the center is a yellow, openmouthed vampire skull, with a twisting highway going through the open mouth and my name in white on the bottom.

Floored when someone pointed out that comic creator Matt Wagner (GRENDEL, BATMAN, SANDMAN) gave my new novel, COFFIN MOON, a shoutout on the most recent episode of Last Podcast On the Left. So rad.

My book comes out today! It’s sad and funny and a little spooky and a lot mysterious and very weird, and you can buy it wherever fine books are sold in indie stores bookshop.org/p/books/happ...

Damn, but I love how @keithrosson.bsky.social writes. Look at this small passage; pulp, poetry, blood and melancholy. It’s exactly how I want my horror novels and Rosson seems to understand this completely.
Varley sneered. "Who gives a shit about burying
you?"
And then, ever moving bullheaded against the currents of the world, and young for only a moment more, he raised Jim Templeton's Browning.
There wasn't a shot fired, though.
Wasn't time for it.
The thing moved.
And all this over money. He'd spend a lot of time
thinking about that.
Over who had more sway on this particular street,
this particular neighborhood.
All of it for that strident, buried, nattering little-boy desire to have someone, even a murderous shitbag like
Jim Templeton, tell him, Oh, John Varley, you done good. I was looking for the right man and it was you. I'm proud.
All this, and all that followed, for such a sad, simple thing as that.

the degree to which i feel like i am living in the pre-title montage of a post-apocalyptic movie cannot be overstated.

Few horror writers land that perfect combo of malevolence and glee as @natcassidy.bsky.social. I'm reading his novella REST STOP right now, and my god, it's just singing. Crackling off the page, and both scary and FUN to read. The dude understands horror.

Finished reading this excellent book earlier today and feeling a bit wounded, raw. This one is gritty, bleak, and utterly ferocious. But also tender and careful. Loved it! @keithrosson.bsky.social

I don't get envious for other writers success, but I do for their prose. Sometimes you open a book ( @keithrosson.bsky.social's Coffin Moon in this case) and the prose comes across just perfectly.

An amazing new vampire story that reads like a really good 70s horror movie. Loved it!

When I was 15 and struggling so hard to be a punk in my little coastal hometown, I got my hair dyed at the local beauty college for $5. It looked gray when it was done, and then it rained, and my neck and the collar of my shirt turned a beautiful, vibrant blue.

Writing's a lot like that sometimes.

At some point after publication, a book's kind of out of an author's hands. Events, social media are still important. But ultimately it has its own life.

With that in mind, THANK YOU ALL for how you've pushed COFFIN MOON. Reviewed it, lauded it, told your friends. I wouldn't be here without you.
