Hi new followers! I'm K, a fantasy writer with a love of dragons and history.

My current WIP is a epic fantasy series that's basically HOUSE OF THE DRAGON meets the family dynamics of ARCANE. It's also open for beta readers! The awesome art of my two girls is by @dudkaart.bsky.social

"you don't look like a ____" comes from people who can't conceive of a mixed-race person or relationship. They hate miscegenation so much they can't even imagine it happening

Chicago Tribune: Greeley, who was born at Illinois Masonic hospital and is adopted, carries a copy of her passport just in case she runs into federal agents.

“I am Latina and I am a service worker,” Greeley said. “I fit the description of what they’re looking for now.”

During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she “doesn’t look like” a Greeley.

“They said this isn’t real, they kept telling me I’m lying, I’m a liar,” Greeley recalled. “I told them to look in the rest of my wallet, I have my credit cards, my insurance.”

Joshua Wong Chi-fung. Maybe the most well known name/face of Hong Kong's pro-democracy protest movement. An activist while still in secondary school, he is 27 years old today. Like many of the HK47 (who took part in pro-democracy primary elections), he has been behind bars since February 28th, 2021.

Wanda 100% downplays her role, even if she straight-up saved a young man from being eaten from a monster like here.

Stach absolutely gloats. Audra's like, "Yup, I banished the monster. I'm done here."

Wanda glanced at Audra, but the other woman was not angry. Audra raised a hand in Grażyna’s direction. “The young man would have been dead by the time you cast your spell,” she said. “We both saw what Wanda did.”
“I did not do much,” Wanda said, shirking away from Andriy’s mother’s touch. She remained unsettled; she did not deserve this. “I just did what came natural to me.”

Wanda's older brother Kazimierz was handsome, charismatic, and widely predicted to lead the country into a new golden age. Those hopes ended after he committed suicide. The disgrace their parents feel about his death and her father's subsequent scapegoating of Wanda are the foundation of the story.

And as someone whose maternal family is Ukrainian, though positive it is still a bit jarring to see Ukrainians portrayed now as a European heroic warrior people if you think back to how many of the same pundits and political figures portrayed East Europeans as criminal "others" before 2016

My entire undergrad and grad studies were focused on Central and Eastern Europe and Poland, in particular. So it was pretty easy for me to make the fantasy setting inspired by 17-18th c. Poland-Lithuania.

(Also there was a semi-popular YA series that butchered Poland and I was like oh hell no)
