EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

This family will be required to pay $40K a year before post-deductible coverage kicks in and then co-insurance is 50%. In network.
Just receieved this today from Florida Blue. This is for a Bronze plan. Our monthly premiums are going from $333 (2025) to $2300 in 2026.
sometimes people just need to log offline! just test & mask IRL and encourage a habit / practice for gatherings and you'll help normalize it
Just today I went to a conference where everyone was expected to test negative for covid beforehand, provide proof of the test, and mask throughout the entire conference. Everyone did. The organizers also had tests and masks on hand. It's actually really simple to care for one another if you try!
For the "everyone should mask" crowd: If you want to protect yourself, get vaccinated. If you want to add a layer of protection, wear a mask. If you fear getting infected despite those 2 precautions, avoid going where you believe the risk is elevated. Don't expect the world to take care of you.
that's new york city politics, babe!
saw this clip of the NYC mayor debate and i had tears in my eyes, perhaps the most insane section of any debate ever

Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

I learned these dynamics on the picket line. Others learned them in other movements. They are reflected imperfectly in some of the dynamics of online call out culture, but pundits who only study them in that context are missing the bigger picture.

"out of the three mass shootings today,"
Iraq War veteran Thomas Sanford has been identified as the gunman who attacked Grand Blanc Mormon church, killing 2 people and setting it ablaze. Out of the three mass shootings today, two of them have been carried out by Iraq war veterans.

I don't understand where these debate guys think politics happens or what politics do? Like has it never occurred to them that the reason abortion rights activists aren't going to evangelical churches to ~persuade them~ because their time is spent, like, helping people pay for their abortions
also if it's "direct" traffic to a particular post then that's most likely dark social which could include this referrer issue for apps as well as traffic driven by peer-to-peer messaging (incl. email)
This is also why the centrist "it'll help you sharpen your arguments" perspective is so off the mark. Persuasion may include arguments but requires more to be effective. The "debate me" stance frames any discussion into opposing "sides" seeking dominance/ridicule rather than collective understanding
