Ohhh Andrea Gibson ;(
Text: poem by Andrea Gibson :every time i ever said i want to die
By Andrea Gibson

A difficult life is not less worth living than a gentle one.
Joy is simply easier to carry than sorrow. And your heart could lift a city from how long you've spent holding what's been nearly impossible to hold.
This world needs those who know how to do that.
Those who could find a tunnel that has no light at the end of it, and hold it up like a telescope to know the darkness also contains truths that could bring the light to its knees.
Grief astronomer, adjust the lens, look close, tell us what you see.

at least I sure won't miss that appointment 🥴
kateviolette.com
welp my body decided to wake me up at 6:58a with a nightmare that I might miss my 11a appointment so I guess I'm up now

It's kind of amazing how now being able to simply say "yeah homie, you're twelve" diffuses a lot of stuff for me that I read on the internet and can just go about my day

Next week will see a first in computer science, with the launch of a scientific conference in which all of the papers — and all of the reviews — have been produced by machines

AI bots wrote and reviewed all papers at this conference
Event will assess how reviews by models compare with those written by humans.

I don't understand white women's insistence on carrying water for terrible white men

Anyway those of us white female folks that have always been paying attention know the Young Republicans have indeed always been this way. I could read their rape-y vibes from a mile away in college and stayed clear
amandamarcotte.bsky.social
For those tempted to say Young Republicans have always been this way, they really have not. When I worked on campus and did bipartisan college events after, they were very much not like this.

That’s why groups like YCT and eventually TPUSA formed — because Young Republicans weren’t radical enough.

EXCLUSIVE: Thousands of leaked messages show leaders of Young Republican groups joking about gas chambers, slavery and rape in a private Telegram chat.

Wow this is a pretty barf-tastic response from Knightly

That scoff laugh says it all. Gross.

The thing that gets me about actors responding like this whenever they’re asking about JKR is that they always say “we need to learn to agree to disagree ^_^” as if trans people are the ones leading the campaign, when we’re just trying to live our lives while JKR posts about trans hate 24/7

Elie's doing God's work today live-posting SCOTUS oral arguments about a Voting Rights Acts case

It's not exactly an uplifting read but it's really important, and a helpful explainer to what's going on. Thank you, Elie 🙏

The fight here with Gorsuch and Kav vs Nelson is whether the "use" of race automatically means "discrimination" on the basis of race.

That's interesting to me, because it's basically the white folks telling on themselves. They cannot see a "use" of race that isn't synonymous with discrimination.

I think you're right, but, I also truly don't understand how this can be the case. Plenty of people old enough to remember when smoking in restaurants was still allowed--how can anyone who was alive for that not understand aerosol transmission?

The unofficial Pluslife Analyzer can now be installed as an app and works without internet

(...except on iOS... any iOS developers here who would like to help build a native wrapper for it?)
kateviolette.com
omgness, evidently @virus.sucks is on bsky! and liked my post! 🥹 feels like meeting a celebrity

you folks rule, virus.sucks, thank you for helping keep me and my friends safe. I'm a huge fan.

you know how in movies or tv shows they show how good a spy is by how fast they can take apart and reassemble a gun

like wow look how fluid and skilled, they must do that a lot

that's me these days except with setting up and breaking down my Pluslife test kit

Locking in for oral arguments on the big voting rights case at the Supreme Court.

The next two hours or so will be... incredibly bad.

I don't understand how more supposedly smart people aren't doing this math

Or maybe they are but they just don't care because caring requires effort

If the state won’t protect us, & we won’t protect each other, & the state won’t catch us, & we won’t catch each other… what do you think is happening to all the people who keep getting knocked down?

A heck of a good thread:
jaydocovid.bsky.social
To say people make a rational assessment of the threat environment around Covid… is just not true.

Most people refuse to talk about or read anything about Covid.

Long Covid has surpassed asthma as the most common childhood illness, and it’s rarely spoken of.

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

Interesting, thank you for digging up the link! :)

I would consider the heck out of Boston, I miss the northeast!

Oh man I also wish you all could live closer together ❤️

I know it would take some creativity to figure out how to care for everyone in a medically complex group (a house or a whole community) but I really want to try

made the quoted thread, a response to a few of @jamellebouie.net’s recent posts, into a video, because sometimes it’s nice to see people’s faces, hear people’s voices, on an ever colder internet. this is part one.

A whole village? huh I didn't hear about this!
kateviolette.com
If my illness hadn't burned through so much of my savings, starting a tiny home community like this was my plan actually! I hoping to buy land and install some tiny parking pads and utility hook-ups, and figure out some common space structure(s)
kateviolette.com
Yeah I mostly liked that article; my particular hang-up was a criteria for inclusion in that particular community was basically have no atypical medical needs, so I'd want something better than that, obvs :)
kateviolette.com
I'd also be game for this! Would be a great way to develop covid-safe community and friendships generally.
kateviolette.com
I think a fair number of covid-cautious people have medical complexities that necessitate us living closer to urban centers and the medical specialities they provide
kateviolette.com
I suspect you're not the only one in that position who'd need a separate living space! 💜
kateviolette.com
yeah it seems like the only way out would be to set a pile of money on fire

I'd do it!, to save my brains
