My fashion tip of the day is to reveal something specific when asked how you are. Like, “I’m good; adding a lot more mustard to my flavor profiles,” or, “Fine; trapezoids IN, ovals OUT.”

Maybe @bengoldfarb.bsky.social has some suggestions? (There are no doubt some called out directly in his book CROSSINGS, but I don’t have it in front of me!)

I have offered before and will again to train anyone who wants to produce and distribute a small-scale newsletter, in print. not a replacement for what we are losing. a way to add to the world though, so it isn't only made of loss

UPDATE: Following the firing of the director of the student newspaper, Indiana University has now cut the print edition of the newspaper entirely.

Indiana University cuts IDS print entirely, hours after firing student media director
By IDS staff
Oct 15, 2025 1:23 pm · Updated Oct 15, 2025 1:23 pm

IU previously directed the Indiana Daily Student to stop printing news coverage in our newspaper. Upon pushback, the university fully cut print, including our special editions. The IDS was not involved in the decision.

Media School Dean David Tolchinsky sent the order to IDS leadership in an email responding to its appeal that the school not censor the newspaper. And the dean attributed the decision to “the campus.” He has not yet responded to a message for clarification.

little 4” x 4” collage on canvas
“tell what the sky looked like”
Photo of a small collage with colorful vertical strips of paper in hues of purple orange and red and a fragment from an old Children’s language language book that reads “tell what the sky looked like”.

We just gorged on them due to a lack of willpower and perhaps a small hope that we’d at least have some fond, green memories in February 🤷‍♀️

(but that is a great idea!)

idk if I’m “keeping it together” but some things that are helping me push back despair a smidge:
1. Mashed potatoes
2. Stay booked at bed&breakfast/goat farm
3. Silliness (bad puns! goofy songs! faces made of food!)

Also community/action/gratitude/etc…but I need potatoes & dumb jokes to get there

I'm looking for a flash fiction piece published in a journal -- I don't remember where, or who, or even the title -- but it's about a mother whose daughter has become a vampire or a zombie and the mother is helping the daughter, at great risk to herself -- does this sound familiar to anyone?

There’s a subplot somewhat like this in Anne De Marcken’s novel It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over, but not sure it quite fits (or if it was published as a standalone).

I've been banging this drum for the past four months or so: DOGE and Russ Vought broke the appropriations process. What's the point of going through the arduous process of crafting 12 spending bills, clearing them through committee and getting them through two chambers if Trump does rescissions?
vermontgmg.bsky.social
If appropriations bills are not seen as enforceable contracts, why should any Member of Congress vote to fund any part of the federal government under Donald Trump? You're voting to provide money for lawlessness. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/there-is-n...
There is no budget "deal" to be made
President Trump has so broken the constitutional framework as to make joint normal, responsible government impossible.

Thai basil seems to hold up to freezing better than Italian, so I just freeze sprigs in a baggie. Italian, I chop/puree w enough olive oil to make a paste; freeze in ice cubes (proto-pesto). To retain more green, you can blanch 1st. Sage is hardier—might survive where you are—parsley’s in between.

Fully open-access peer-reviewed journal, largely open-access biblio, collectively authored by scholars at teaching-centered institutions, pedagogical theory with psychoanalytic & political economic foundations.

And, simply on its face, a fascinating essay.

I checked the handbook, this #CountsAsWriting for sure

should be writing but instead I'm painting the inside of this door jamb
a white door is wide open to reveal the inside jamb and hinges; the usually-hidden jamb is now painted with a random, very colorful abstract design (all done in free-hand and so full of quirks and mishaps)

omg I almost forgot to show y’all the Jeffrey Gibson that’s in the Counter History exhibit
stretched rawhide deerskin with intricately shaded geometric patterns in black and gray acrylic and graphite wall text:

Jeffrey Gibson
Mississippi Band Choctaw, Cherokee, born in 1972
Document, 2015
Acrylic and graphite on deer rawhide, steel nails
In Document, Gibson adapts the format of winter counts-illustrated calendars made on bison or deer hide for and by Indigenous communities in the Plains region to visually register historical events and communal memory. Rather than documenting the experience of passing years, Gibson combined abstract forms and precise layering of paint over several months to ruminate on the conventions and differences in how time and history are marked. The rigid edges of Gibson's painting respond to the sinuous, organic edges of the stretched deer hide.
