If you're going to a No Kings protest this Saturday (as why would you not?), I have a little sermon to put in your pocket and take along.

Text is Luke 18:1-8, Jesus' story about the little old lady who bullies a rotten judge into giving her justice: lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts/?y=384...

I’m suspicious that at least part of this pile of unfolded laundry might be trying to avoid school

It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I realized how rare that was. And it undoubtedly has shaped how I am a father to my kids

I never doubted that my father loved me unconditionally?

He very intentionally and unintentionally made it clear to all of us that his love for us simply was.

Nothing I could have done would have made him love me more or less. He just did.

What’s ONE green flag about your father?

the naive takes about America not having it's own cuisine drive me nuts (NGL, I became a Tom Holland hater after watching him give an interview going off about this exact point)

and yes, deep fried food is one variation on this, but we have many, many cuisines, and most are **S+ tier**

"America doesn't have its own cuisine"

I am eating a deep-fried sushi burrito; your argument is invalid.

There’s also more than a touch of faulty logic in saying that the fact that there were atrocities happening before Europeans arrived justifies European atrocities

Oof; at least with a big dog (all we’ve had) you can force it down if you have to (gently; humanely; etc) without risk of needle teeth of pain

Potentially fewer limbs now though

It's very windy out, as well as dry, and I think someone a few blocks away is shooting off a bunch of fireworks and I just have to say, not all the children are the future. Some are just fire hazards with limbs.

Concept:

Annual Apple Developers Conference, but for announcements about actual apples.

Wait, that was the first round, after everyone had seconds here is the aftermath
joshuagrubbsphd.bsky.social
Temperature has been a little bouncy (210-235), but it’s leveling off now and we should be steady at 225 for a long while

Homemade sauces have to meld overnight

Yes! Being at above a mile means that we tend to burn a little bit more fuel and that I have to have a giant water pan to keep things humid inside the smoker and that I have to crutch the meat when it hits a stall or it will dry out
joshuagrubbsphd.bsky.social
And remember folks, it ain’t bbq without all the fixins
joshuagrubbsphd.bsky.social
soon.

This will be enough fuel for about 16 hours or so at 225.

We will be starting around 8:00pm and aiming to pull it off the smoker by 9:00am.

since he was 3 years old, my now 5yo has called the annual "Balloon Fiesta" the "Balloon Festia," which was the most adorable thing ever.

but, sadly, today, he realized his mispronunciation and has chosen to sound like a boring adult
