If Stockton had only listened to experts, amateurs, people consigned to asylums for congenital lunacy, people who've never heard of submersibles before, a tortoise called Alan, he and his crew would be alive today.
Political collective action has been derided in this country as the province of leftists for so long that asking why it doesn't exist in opposition to trumpism boggles.
"The Engineering of Consent"
I read this and can't help but think of episode 2 of Adam Curtis' "The Century of the Self."
Literally nothing coming from the Pentagon, DHS, or DOJ should be considered credible unless backed up by an independent source outside of government. (This, for the record, is a huge problem!)
Of all the things that didn’t happen
At least it's an OHP (although built in Spain with a funny looking CIWS.)

I am very tired of this, but a quick review.

In America, it is legal for you to own your bullshit laser, no matter how it got into the county.

How you use your bullshit laser matters. Most jurisdictions escalate to felony for lighting up any law enforcement. Doing to them in the sky is ++Felony.
This is such an astoundingly bad idea that I kinda think it’s a false flag or an op of some sort

Merits aside, it is insanely easy to be caught if you do this and the punishment for doing this is much more severe than you’d guess.

A prayer: Gawd, please shield me from doing whackadoo shit with St. Umberto Eco's words about cretins, fools, morons and lunatics. Especially:
"There are lunatics who don’t bring up the Templars, but those who do are the most insidious. At first they seem normal, then all of a sudden…"
Them: Did you see this whackadoo shit? Who comes up with this?
Me: Are they an astrophysicist or mechanical engineer?
Them: ummm [reads closely]...aerospace.
Me: Close enough.
Think about how for decades, one of the ingredients of a crackpot was: retired engineer.

Retired engineers, for *generations* have been a fertile ground for crackpot theories in everything.

They get that golden watch and bam, incoherent manifesto about quantum archeology inbound.
Speaking of reclusive writers, Pynchon's new novel is all Milwaukee and Chicago so far.

One issue in the Oregon National Guard case, being argued today, is the meaning of “rebellion.”
And when is military force needed to enforce law?
And who gets to decide?

It reminds me of a question we returned to again and again during the Forever War: what is war?

One of my nightmares from the late 80s and early 90s when I worked on very large uninterruptible power supply systems after midnight so as not to disturb daytime operations: making a mistake while working on the very large battery bank and shorting it out with subsequent disastrous results.
They did give me a nightmare scenario addition:

"The larger the datacenter, the larger the battery backup it needs, which we also only have recently started addressing in the code."

And added "So, yeah, I guess we're waiting for a Triangle Shirtwaist Fire for datacenters."
