In the most exciting creative news of my life, I can finally share what @rikworth.bsky.social and I have been hard at work at for the past year.

PETS TELL TALES: ANCIENT EGYPT from @hachettechildrens.bsky.social will be on bookshelves in July & is available to preorder NOW! 👉 geni.us/PetsTellTales
Cover art for Pets Tell Tales: Ancient Egypt featuring a pharoah anxiously holding open the jaws of a hippo with his legs. A falcon swoops between his legs, a cobra snake is wrapped around his arm and a baboon shoots a spit ball at him from behind some reeds - where a dog, ibis bird, cat, and strange dog-like Set creature also look out from. Pyramids are seen in the distance and the sunset sky fades into stars above.

You'd've thought it was my first time drawing a butt!
comic page featuring many shining bottoms and a wee mouse covering his poor eyes

I was surprised by the adrenaline! We take suggestions from the kids and they had me drawing butts yesterday and my cheeks were burning hot the whole time I was drawing.

Only two days ago and this feels like last month... exciting but tiring work, schools. Still very much getting used to drawing large, fast, and live in front of an audience too!

I’m off to Bristol!
We’ve got 4 school talks to about 500 students. Looking forward to talking about comics and having the kids make their own story. As so…

I had this poster by Drew Sturzan celebrating the films of George Lucas that came in an issue of Star Wars Insider up on my wall for years. Seared into my mind.
Photo of a folded poster depicting scenes/characters from an array of George Lucas films, featuring a young Lucas in the top left holding a camera over his shoulder.

Nice comic about why there's so much symmetry in nature by Laura Jeanty & Page Biersdorff on @crucialcomix.bsky.social #sciart

Full comic: www.crucialcomix.com/comic/symmet...
Comic page showing examples of symmetry in nature e.g. honeycombs, bilateral symmetry in beetles, rotational symmetry of galaxies. Does this exist at the scale of the universe, atoms or fundamental particles?

Here's a T. Rex bored to death trying to bite their own tail. My partner asked me to animate it in stop motion, after she watched a video about the very important topic of "could T. Rex chew its own tail like a dog". The puppet is still a work in progress 🦖

Take a few minutes to appreciate Drew Struzan creating the original artwork for THE PHANTOM MENACE. Truly a master at work.

Updated our bio image with characters from @rikworth.bsky.social's and my upcoming Rome book.
Cartoon illustration of Rik and I. Rik - bearded with luscious hair - leans casually against a desk and a stack of books, while holding a laptop. Jordan - bearded, bespectacled and bald - hunches over a desk and draws a comic page. Molly the dog lies on the floor, a magpie perches on Rik's arm, and a spider dangles from a lamp.

One of the cartoons in my new book 'Physics for Cats' which is out now in the UK, USA, Canada, France and Germany. Order from your local bookshops or online: www.tomgauld.com/
Two beetles on a stick.
One beetle says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out to reveal that they are in a glass case with two scientists studying them.
One scientist says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out into space. Abouard a spaceship, two aliens watch the scientists on a screen.
One alien says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
The aliens turn to look out at the reader.

Text below the cartoon reads:

I would have liked to have filmed the inking of this tiny wren and the shrub's very fine branches with this brush, but I needed to get especially close to the piece for this and it would have been too awkward.

1/2
Detail from a silhouette drawing in black ink of a tiny bird perched on a small, leafless shrub. The head of a hen just makes it into the crop, opposite the bird. The drawing is very fine and intricate. The detail shown is roughly comparable in size to two postage stamps, and is photographed with a penny and the traditional Chinese brush the piece was drawn with.

The only kind of climate change I can approve of 😌
Two big red cats circle a terrified hog encased in ice. The cat's tails are flames and melt the ice partially, exposing some pig butt and giving it a singe. "Uh-oh Step-Pig, I'm Stuck...!" ok I made the joke for you so you don't have to. Hot ham smoke emits from the pig and spells "BECOME AN" and melted ice on the bottom spells "ICE-FREE ZONE"

Y'all, I am VERY excited to introduce you to one of my new favorite Tolkien artists: Kay Woollard (1924-2008).

Woollard first read LotR in '79 when she was 55. From then until her death, she was heavily involved in Tolkien fan culture, contributing illustrations to Tolkien Society publications.
