I get lost all the time and I never murder anyone about it, where's my national holiday
Wild that anyone bothers to celebrate Columbus when they could just pick anyone at random who’s ever made a wrong turn.

yearly reminder to people insisting that we view Christopher Columbus as "a man of his time" that *the people responsible for the Spanish Inquisition* thought Columbus was out of pocket
Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.
I remember one time I dialed one of my friend's numbers while another friend was at my house, and they were like, "Oh, did you just call <friend's name>?"
Also, during college none of my college friends *had* cell phones, and their dorm phone numbers changed every year.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.
On the plus side, doing way better on the carbon emissions
this newsletter is realiably one of the best things I read all week, ty ingrid

New levels of hell: just got an email from our local AYSO cancelling today’s youth soccer games because ICE is at the Home Depot across from the soccer fields at James Park in Evanston.
This admittedly was not what I expected (SFW)

Extra funny that this is literally on the Barbary Coast Trail, marked with plaques in the sidewalk and everything.

"The early decades of the Barbary Coast were marred by persistent lawlessness, gambling, administrative graft, vigilante justice, and prostitution"
Stay vigilant for signs of lawlessness
A "LAW OFFICES" sign with zero name plates
If you are seeking balance, please note the restricted hours
A street sign reading "BALANCE" with a No Parking sign below it
Also, this crew does truly transformative work. They deserve all the support. And if you're up for getting into it, it is an experience like no other insidecircle.org
An infection other than love, you mean? (j/k j/k I am happy for you and wish you a speedy diagnosis and recovery)
We have heart and agency and care and we will collectively survive this fuckery.
I spent my day with a bunch of strangers who give a fuck about making progress in their own struggles and helping other people along the way and I highly recommend that experience in all its many forms.

What an antidote to the poison and lies and fearmongering and illegitimate power and bullshit.

Drake paying his lawyers for his losing lawsuit:
US beef prices have now reached a record high.
Nice try, Roadrunner
