Abolish ICE.

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

I mean, kind of! I guess I’m more often the caregiver so I have some sympathy— but none are quite as bad, more just confused the world keeps worlding.

I think it’s being taught to fear loss of virility, irrelevance etc more than death, with no excuses for Trump of course.

Most aren’t in charge of the country, so it’s easier to feel sympathy for a group taught to fear the state of old age and disability. (But also yes)

They ramble, they express views derived from television or Facebook as if they were true, they struggle to differentiate their own feelings and ailments from the state of the world, and, most of all, they deeply fear death and, even more, irrelevancy.

I have some older, ailing, white, male boomers in my life and, I must say, they basically talk like Trump. (Granted they are not president, so their commentary doesn’t set off cataclysmic violence.)

Trump: "I don't think there's anything that's gonna get me in heaven. I think I'm not maybe heaven bound. I may be in heaven right now as we fly on Air Force One. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to make heaven."

The overly-emphasized/ painted for fun black eye just cracked me up.

I don't wear a press pass (well, I also don't have one) because I don't want to get targeted. But I could make a fake press pass as good as any of them.

I know the Bass Pro in Memphis is big but...

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — National Guard troops patrolled in Tennessee’s second-largest city for the first time Friday while soldiers in Illinois were engaged only in planning and training after a judge handed a loss to the Trump administration and blocked their deployment to the Chicago area.

At least nine armed Guard members began their patrol at the Bass Pro Shops located at the Pyramid, an iconic Memphis landmark, about a mile (1.6 kilometers) from historic Beale Street and FedEx Forum, where the NBA’s Grizzlies play

Only cops hear an ask to “help people not kill them” and respond, this cannot stand!

I know he has good ppl advising him. Look you know he’s better than any alternative so far!

I’m pretty abysmally disappointed after Democrats pooped all over defund the police. But I am hopeful bc I think genuinely regular people don’t like a police state.

Then they are brave truth tellers. But if you are a lefty, then you’re biased.

I appreciate journalists cannot always write “asshole” even when it applies.

(He probably does, I just don’t know enough to comment on anything other his good looks and charm)

I read this and thought, they just mean “racists” right?

Unless you are a right-wing activist journalist; then it’s fine lol

Out of most categories of reporting, I think “political reporting” has remained really homogenous, which explains some conventions. (To add, political reporting remains prized and reliant on access. I think the whole category should be upended — everything is politics!)
gregsargent.bsky.social
The conventions of political reporting today are not well equipped to handle this concerted use of pretexts for instrumental purposes and the bottomless bad faith they employ. Grasping the industrial-scale deception at the core of MAGA politics is essential. 6/
