Like literally the day before my dad asked him if he was planning to show up and he was like, “yeah it’s our wedding????”
jenwith1n.bsky.social
When I was engaged people (men) kept making weird jokes to my now-husband about how he better not leave me at the altar or whatever and he was like “why do people keep saying this to me???”

Sometimes I think I’m being unreasonable when I’m disappointed when I see people not approaching life/advocacy from a disability justice framework, but then I remember THATS THE BARE MINIMUM!

I was wondering if the difference between vegan and non vegan has to do with the type of protein. Like if it’s rice protein, rice can have heavy metals like lead in it. I’m not sure if that’s as common with milk, which is the basis for whey protein.

What an absolute POS

Imagine having to show up to a city council as an expert, knowing masking is the smart choice but also knowing if you don’t take the mask off everyone in the room will think you’re “irrational.” Very fun and accessible world we have created.

What’s sad is I have a pretty good sense of what Covid would do to my already ill body, and the normalization that mask wearing is irrational makes it hard for me to mask when I have to travel or present at meetings for work. Takes like these are actively dangerous to me.

Absolutely should have guessed that all these meathead men have lead poisoning.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

This Wednesday at 6 PM, Council will consider 2 items about federal actions in Portland: the Protect Portland Initiative resolution, & the Sanctuary City Codification ordinance.

@counciloravalos.bsky.social & I made this video to give a little more info about the legislation.

See you Wednesday!

We are months from descriptions like this getting shortened to “rampage, but make it satirical.”

Not going to broadcast why but just want to say I’m incredibly proud of my husband, he is the most creative person I know and the dictionary definition of a “helper.”

(We don’t have coffee on the patio though because I have GERD and he drinks Diet Coke.)

I saw part 2 about 100 times before I saw the original - Martin Short is perfect
jenwith1n.bsky.social
Those do look unincorporated - you could cross reference the lots with Portland maps, there might be more info there

Oh fun I must be on the list (or that person has me blocked). I post very rarely about Israel and have explicitly stated that I am not a Zionist since I was like…in middle school. This is definitely just a blocklist of Jews! Extremely cool and normal!

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

Still have my high school best friends’ phone numbers memorized. Sometimes dial them from memory just for fun.
bleary.off-the-records.com
If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Anyone can be a deranged asshole, but overall I do want the people designing technology to have spent some time learning about the human condition and the history of technological impacts.

Incredibly underrated thing about Portland is how many people are working quietly, largely without pay, to make this city a better place. People pay attention here and genuinely care about community. It’s not perfect by any stretch, but I love that people will always show up.

The US federal attack on Portland has resulted in the best advertisement for a city that I have ever seen. Round-the-clock joy, community solidarity and silliness that much of the West has lost and longs for.

Amazing Emergency Naked Ride. Here’s the moment thousands of riders rolled through the protests at the ICE facility and cheers erupted. 😮💯

Just got back from downtown - saw a sold out MFM live show at the Schnitz. There was a line of people waiting to get into the late show. Walked several blocks to where we parked - it was a very nice night once it stopped raining! Portland lives

Oh yeah most of their Simchat Torah stuff is Tuesday. Same with Shir Tikvah. Sorry I don’t have better recs!
jenwith1n.bsky.social
I haven’t been to their Simchat Torah celebration yet but I belong to Beth Israel - it’s a beautiful reform synagogue in NW Portland.

I already signed up to testify on the PPI - if anyone is thinking about testifying but hasn’t testified before or is nervous I’m happy to answer questions or give advice. Let’s speak up for our community!
councilorkanal.bsky.social
The earlier of these (2nd item overall) is a resolution to create a Protect Portland Initiative (PPI). This resolution has been led by @counciloravalos.bsky.social, and would specifically denounce federal intervention & urge the Mayor to take specific steps to protect Portlanders.

2/5
Denounce any attempts to deploy the United States Armed Forces, the National Guard, or militarized Federal Immigration Enforcement in Portland and establish the Protect Portland Initiative
