Guitarist Pat Metheny requests that “fusion” not be used in reference to his music; he prefers the term “Big Wave," explaining: “It's a combination of New Wave and surfing music." ("Potpourri," DownBeat, Vol. 47, No. 2 (Feb. 1980), p. 12)

I wish more people knew that there’s virtually no way to prove media or text is AI-generated unless you created it yourself. “AI detectors” aren’t proof. Among other glaring issues, this makes it more difficult for journalists to report on media being AI-generated even when it seems obvious

I maintain, Daniel Craig's delivery of "the Nazi child masturbating in the bathroom" is the best line read of the century.

Every time the horrible young Republicans group chat stuff is mentioned, I think of Jacob Thrombey. (I should really rewatch Knives Out. It's even a good autumn movie.)

even popular music studies in the US is more influenced by American Studies, Black Studies, Queer Studies, etc., than it tends to be in Europe. in part bc popular music studies largely developed in those depts in the late 80s and 90s.

Interesting to see the discourse about this. The dec the editors put in def oversells my point, which is that I as an American am coming at things from literally another place, by virtue of which I got trained on a slightly different set of tools.

Read my new piece in The Wire on why I have never found the concept of hauntology especially helpful

Them:
I saw you at the art show at the library taking pictures.

Me:
Yeah the stairwell reminded me of the previous two shots on the roll which were of the interior of my microwave.

The case is submitted.

My prediction is that Section 2 is overturned, 6-3 Kav majority, saying that the Section 2 still *exists* but isn't allowed to do anything.

Locking in for oral arguments on the big voting rights case at the Supreme Court.

The next two hours or so will be... incredibly bad.

Central Pennsylvanian here. They are incredibly Eastern Pensylvanian. Western PA is a whole different vibe.

Still stunned by D’Angelo’s departure. Grateful for the brilliant musical legacy he bequeathed to us. I thought it worth re-posting this meditation on black music and black mortality. www.newyorker.com/news/daily-c...

I'm fascinated by how much louder the trains sound in colder months/air. They sound like distant hi-pitched singing in the warmer months, but once it starts getting colder they sound like a low-pitched drone with oscillating overtones.

Yeah, whne i first heard the the guitar it threw me. I had to double check that I was hearing the right album.

Thanks for bring to my attention. She's great. That DG is branching out into Nonesuch territory is interesting, too.

I would think so, but maybe knowing when he last used it was enough. Regardless, it's a fantastic little memento to have.

I need to hear this one. Bro has never really been a foreground payer in my experience. That he defers to Smith and Gilmore and only provides sporadic commentary is not surprising - to me anyway. Gilmore's great isn't he? Did you know his grandfather is Roy Haynes?

Have you heard?:

Nothing? I fixed the Wheeler album, and did a quick scroll through the bassist's list and it looks like nothing else is mis-attributed.
