Just watched a clip of Poilievre talking about Charlie Kirk, who killed him, and why. And it was not very different from what Trump says: blaming the authoritarian, violent left. It's an ideologically warped distortion field. Pierre may be worried about the leadership review. Or he might believe it.

And naturally, once this technology is out there, it's a ticking time bomb until someone jailbreaks the filters and turns this into a full-blown deepfake porn generator to be used against your enemies or colleagues or classmates. So not only is it useless for good, it's a nuclear bomb for bad.

There's no possible useful use case for this. They're picturing making wholesome JibJabs for grandma, but the reality out of the gate is just going to be "high school bullies making realistic deepfakes of the kids they don't like doing embarrassing/depraved/illegal things"

Why, on God's green earth, would I ever upload a 3D likeness of my face and voice to a software so that strangers could make deepfakes of me.

Unlike the original Sora, Sora 2 isn’t a mere video-generation platform; it’s a social app with a TikTok-style feed of short AI-generated clips, and it allows you to authorize a “cameo” of yourself so friends can drop your likeness into their skits—and to revoke it later once you’ve seen too many videos of yourself fleeing police or crying on game shows.

It's Ada Lovelace Day, so worth noting that the era during which coders were mainly women (starting with her machine-language explication of the Bernoulli sequence in 1843) lasted about 130 years whereas the male-dominated period has lasted less than half that long

I umped the rest of the inning with a baseball-size bulge in my cheek. Even when we weren’t sure about the score or the proper place to put runners, we never wondered where the baseball was. But cowhide tastes terrible.

Leroy has adjusted surprisingly well to being denied his bedtime snack routine (what I previously would've called his "entire reason for being")
