My search in Retrosheet's extensive and invaluable Play By Play file has failed to find a single example of an 862GDP logged in Retrosheet (which isn't every game, but is most MLB games all-time).

1,266 8-6-2 plays.
0 of those 8-6-2 plays that are GIDP.

becaue Frelick didn't maintain possession — the ball went off his glove and hit the wall before popping back into his glove. It's like it bounced from his glove to the ground and back.

From MLB Gameday: "Dodgers challenged (force play), call on the field was upheld: Max Muncy grounds into a double play, center fielder Sal Frelick to shortstop Joey Ortiz to catcher William Contreras. Teoscar Hernández out at home. Will Smith out at 3rd. 3 outs"

I don't know that we're talking about Logan Gilbert's Resting Pitch Face enough. Elite. Karstens-esque. Simply breathtaking.

Fouled a ball off his foot, then stole a base standing up. Naylor should be studied in lab.

The last season-killing strike happened after a 5-year period in which Minnesota, Cincinnati, and Oakland won the World Series, with Montreal having the best record in baseball

Anyone who believes that the Brewers winning the World Series will suddenly cause Rob Manfred and the owners to come off of their "WE MUST HAVE A SALARY CAP" stance is an idiot rube of the highest order and I refuse to take such people seriously. bsky.app/profile/pass...

The NLCS begins tonight. And it could have a profound effect on whether baseball is played in 2027.

In case you were wondering about a hangover effect after going extras to advance via a winner-take-all postseason game, the teams that one did not show any immediate effect, at least. That and more in my @fangraphs.com writeup of last night's ALCS Game 1 blogs.fangraphs.com/raleigh-pola...

If the Brewers and Mariners make it to the World Series, shitfuck we’ll pound that ol’ Budweiser and this platform will become the Ball Four Book Club.

had a bye
had a bye
had a bye
(also the Dodgers)

and we never talked about the bye being a detriment ever again

Probably should drop it off at the dry cleaners to get the tears out. Won’t need it for 6-7 months.

In the 22nd inning this is no longer true.
jjcoop36.bsky.social
We have now had 21 innings of do-or-die games in the past two days.

And every inning has been wonderfully excruciating.

In every at-bat of those 21 innings the game has either been tied or the trailing team has had the tying run at the plate.

Brewers & Cubs pitcher usage heading into this winner-take-all NLDS Game 5

We are facing a deciding game of an LDS series where the two starting pitchers between them have not worked longer than 2.0 IP in any game this season.

Bullpenning has become a significant feature of the postseason because it keeps working.

Bullpen Games Keep Paying Off In The Postseason
It may seem like a strategy of desperation, but teams using bullpen games are winning over and over in the postseason.
