Accountability thread for The Nameless Song, draft 6!

Going to do daily posts with word counts quotes/notes/etc about the WIP in which the dragon (ace guy) turns into a dragon (flying lizard) until the draft's done.

Bee pic is me. And also for the beeple. We'll get to them.

An anthropomorphic bee in a blue suit panics as they type away at a laptop with two hands while holding a red book in a third and gripping their head with a fourth. A tiny mug of tea (that's suspiciously honey-colored) sits beside them. The laptop has a beehive logo on the back, if you needed more cute.

Context:
Reuben: "I'm gonna get Miryam. You stay here and don't run off into the city full of dragons that were nearly driven into extinction by the elves and still resent them for that."
Eleanor, an elf: "How about we go explore the city while he's gone?"
Mick: "HOW ABOUT WE DON'T?"

Fully admit I might make a new accountability thread because I really want something that actually describes the story and isn't a pain to scroll through at this point.

Not tonight, though. Tonight, we're stopping at 1123 words and a fun fact: dragons purr in this universe.
Oh no. Oh, no, she wouldn’t.

But she did. She closed the distance between them, reaching up to place one gentle hand on Mick’s snout, as close to his cheek as possible. Instinctively, he leaned down to let her shift her touch. He even titled her head a little to press his cheek into her palm.

“But you won’t be ‘letting me run off,’” she said. Her voice was soft. Too soft. Mick felt his ears droop into them. “You’ll be right there with me, won’t you?”

A low, loud growl reverberated through the courtyard, causing Eleanor to recoil in shock. Then, she pressed her lips together, and Mick, in his horror, realized that the sound had come from him.

“Was that a purr?” she asked.

Mick leapt onto all fours and skittered a few feet away from Eleanor, head held up and out of her reach.

And honestly, it's a soft one. 😭😭😭😭 If only actual AI could be like this.
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Well, in that case, I'm going to tempt you with okay coffee and better sides and chicken tenders. :V

Anyway, just putting it out there that Cybersix is: a) a musically and visually gorgeous cartoon about a genderfluid, Jewish-coded superhero who literally kicks fascists and b) free in quite a few different places, including the Internet Archive.
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
GIRL (gender neutral). THE ONLY PERSON WHO'S REMOTELY CONNECTED TO YOU, AND YOU TELL THE DUDE WHO WANTS TO FIND YOU WHERE HE LIVES. GIRL, WHAT.
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
This thought brought to you by: The fact that Cybersix's first episode has reassured me as writer that it's okay to leave giant plot holes if the story you're telling is good . . .

. . . because it MAKES NO SENSE THAT SHE LEFT LUCAS IN HIS APARTMENT WHILE JOSE WAS RIGHT THERE.

On rewatching Cybersix after many years:

On the one hand, this show was cancelled, so maybe it's not a good example of a well-written show.

On the other, this was a show on Fox in the late 90s, so maybe it's a GREAT example.

@ Rafe: Together, amirite? :V

But oh man, Tobie is so soft and sweet! 😭 (I would love to try her gran's shortbread, on that note!)
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Devontae has *excellent* taste. 8) Snickerdoodles = best cookie, especially warm and fresh, amirite?
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Awwww @ Cyril! 😭😭 I mean, yes, I'm all for dark chocolate too, but man, the satisfaction at being able to share something you made with people you care about. 😭😭😭
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
My heart! 😭😭😭 That is the softest, most adorable way to describe a kiss, and I'm here for her.
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
That Snow White retelling answer is *adorable*. 😭

That said, I'll be real. Darius is a *mood*. Anxiety included.
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Both of these are extremely excellent, especially the cinnamon-apple. 8)
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
I'd make a Sheetz joke here, but having tried Wawa recently, I concede that you do, in fact, have the better coffee and sandwiches. 😔

On that note, poor dude! 😭 Please eat! Even gas station food!
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
You should def get a ham and cheese croissant. :V

Realtalk, tho, I admit this is a little bit inspired by that one time *I* worked in food service. A ham and cheese from the leftovers box and the world's okay-est coffee just hit different when they're both free, and you're a poor af grad student. 😩

new pinned post! hellooooooo I'm E (she/they) the #author of THE LORD OF THE WOOD (@hanoversquarepress.bsky.social,
2026) and THE KEEPER OF LONELY SPIRITS (MIRA Books, 2025), as well as various short stories

check out my links below!
E.M. Anderson's The Lord of the Wood and The Keeper of Lonely Spirits against a starry night background, above a link: ElizMAnderson(dot)Com(slash)Links. The Lord of the Wood's cover is teal with a stag of flowers and foliage growing from a twisted tree with flowers growing around it and black ooze dripping from a branch overhead. the title "The Lord of the Wood" is in large white serif text to the left, with foliage growing through the letters closest to the tree, and the author "E.M. Anderson" is in all-caps yellow text at the bottom. the tagline, in smaller yellow text, reads, "Even a beastly woodland protector needs saving..." The Keeper of Lonely Spirits's cover features a lonely cottage, surrounded by headstones, with smoke drifting from the chimney, atop a tall green hill dotted with trees and yellow flowers. the title "The Keeper of Lonely Spirits" is centered in all-caps sans-serif yellow text, with "E.M." Anderson in smaller white text at the bottom. Tagline in still smaller text at the top reads, "Living forever can be mighty lonesome." "When lonely clockmaker Arthur Throckmorton loses his way in an enchanted forest, he meets the hero of his childhood bedtime stories: the Lord of the Wood. But instead of the mythical figure of his dreams, the Lord of the Wood is a grim man turning into a beast and losing power over a dying forest. If they can’t save the forest before he becomes a beast completely, Arthur will lose the man he's falling for—and never see his family again." Text is in a textbox against a murky image of a forest, with the cover of E.M. Anderson's The Lord of the Wood below the text, all against a dark teal background with gold curlicues in the corners. "An old man cursed with immortality hunts ghosts rather than making mortal friends who will die one day. When residents of an Ohio town beset by a vengeful spirit adopt him as their own, he must decide: leave to protect his heart, or stay to save their lives?" To the left of the text is E.M. Anderson's The Keeper of Lonely Spirits, above a QR code linking to the book at Bookshop(dot)Org in either hardcover or ebook. Text is in a translucent textbox against a background of yellow flowers in the sunset.

Strawberry.

Seriously, if we're talking food, for Mick, it's a good coffee and a ham/cheese croissant. (Or jam/cheese if he had to pick. He doesn't have a sweet tooth.)

If we're talking the general concept of treat, downtime to read/fiddle/catch a film (with Eleanor).

Thinking of it in terms of a four-act structure instead of a five-act one, maybe being a third of the way through what I was hoping would be my final word count (125k max) isn't so bad, but I'm definitely going to have to trim Act I and stick to my plan of making Act II fairly brief. 🫠🫠
