Fall foliage on Mount Oread leaves us in awe. 🍂
A crimson and blue University of Kansas bus with an image of a Jayhawk drives by a tree with orange foliage.

A very strong argument for the importance of looking at the material evidence, and the tools to "see" them!

Good news, 📜 #bookhistory #booksky #libsky #rarebooks folks - (and via @lynnemthomas.com ) - Paul's talk will be recorded and posted on the @illinoisrbml.bsky.social YouTube! (No livestream, tho, but glad to see it recorded)

Join us on Thursday, October 23 from 3-5 pm for a talk by Scheide Librarian Emeritus Paul S. Needham (Princeton University), titled "Gutenberg's Second Invention: The 1460 Mainz Catholicon."

All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
Graphic with an image of the Catholicon partially enlarged by a magnifying glass and text: "The RBML presents a talk by Paul Needham. Gutenberg's Second Invention: The 1460 Mainz Catholicon. Thursday, October 23, 3-5pm in Main Library Room 346. More than 500 years after its printing, the production details of the Catholicon are still a much debated topic in incunabula research. Come learn about the most recently discovered clues with the subject's preeminent scholar, Paul Needham!"

For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away.

Whoa. Great new recording by Pygmalion of Brahms' deeply moving "Ein deutsches Requiem" - here the second movement that always, always makes me cry. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYWq...

My predecessor was wise to retire before cataloging this.

Bonus: heirloom chiles. They are worth the drive.

Chimayo is a very spiritually "thin" place for me - dedicated to the Christ of Esquipulas and the Santo Nino de Atocha, with a well of holy dirt. Great food, and the only remaining defensive plaza in northern NM. And amazing hispano weavings!

If you like Jesus, snow cones, chiles, low riders, and art, have I got the place for you...

A closed wooden stand that's haphazardly covered in hand-painted signs for Jesus, snow cones, chiles, art, and a low rider museum. There's a painting of Jesus just above a painting of a blue low rider. An American flag hangs next to Jesus.
