Look, you can't be a frontline social care worker unless you can explain what the dagger in Macbeth is a metaphor for. I don't make the rules.

Interesting that the sceptics have now fully moved from “it doesn’t work” to “it’s a bubble”.

(It probably is a bubble! But who cares? There’s been a fundamental breakthrough and it will drive the build-out of compute and energy infrastructure.)

Everyone agrees that we're currently in a dotcom era-like AI bubble. People disagree what sort of bubble it is.

There are 3 stories one can tell about the dotcom crash: a startup story, a telecom story, and an accounting fraud story.

My take: it's giving Enron

Mostly. It'd require coordination across basically every other rich, western country to stop capital flight.

And it's also just trying to pretend that if you want to fund public services better, as rich as rich people are, you need broad based tax rises!

I am on a slightly more modest income and I also think that wealth taxes aren't a very workable idea.

The Spectator (owned by GBNews owner Paul Marshall - estimated wealth of £800 million) doesn’t like taxing wealth fairly.

I wonder how they got to this editorial decision?

Let’s tax wealth fairly, fund front line services & make hope normal again.

Polanski is talking nonsense about wealth taxes.

That's... not how nationalisation traditionally works?

They are aware that we had water and electric bills prior to privatisation, right? It doesn't just become a service like the NHS (nor should it - surely everyone can see the incentive issue there!)

I'm afraid to say it's not the first time it has appeared! The episode about Peter Hitchens' war on daylight saving is worth digging through the archives for...!

Another one falls in Kent.

Reform has suspended county councillor Robert Ford after a complaint was made about him by 'several female members of staff.'

The party said that Cllr Ford refused to engage with the complaints process, so he has had the whip removed pending a disciplinary process.

This isn't an original observation but it's still so strange to see Trump at international meetings, and everyone treating him like the kid of the Twilight Zone* who could read minds, who nobody would dare upset.

(*My actual reference point here is the Simpsons parody of the famous episode.)

This is tremendous and I dare say wherever you come from politically does a lot more to explain Britain's problems than stupid whingeing.

Huh! Another weird massive outage of some critical national infrastructure! I guess this must be completely unrelated to the previous incidents.

Vodafone seems to have had a catastrophic outage. My fibre broadband is down, but worse Vodafone's website is inaccessible and calling its phone number gets a "this phone is switched off" message...

"News-flavoured content" is such a good way of putting this
cooperlund.online
I've been blaming memes for this, and I think it fits. A lot of the angriest people out there aren't actually consuming news, they're consuming news-flavored content, and the content is a funhouse mirror version of reality that they're mistaking for being real.
